Drought in West Wisconsin |

I've never seen the rivers--The Kinnickinnic, Rush, Willow--in this region as low as they are this summer. I tried to fish the other day, and was shocked
at how low the water was. The trout were bunched up in the pools. The hatches were terrible. And the stream bed where the water had receded caused the area to
stink! I'm done fishing until the rains return. It's truly horrible here.

There is almost to much water here in Western North Carolina. We have had rain almost every day for 2 months. I will send you some of our water. What is

Same thing up here on the Brule in NW Wisconsin. I was out last Thursday evening/night and the water is so clear I could see the river bottom 6 feet down in
just the moonlight. Luckily the river does have a strong natural spring flow, so I don't think it will get much lower. The section I fished was covered
with filamentious algae on the surface. Had to clean off the fly every half dozen casts or so.

Yes, sorry to hear of the water shortage in your beautiful area.
Here, in VA., MD - Lower PA., we have doubled usual April and May - constant rain it seems. For me, late April and May did not find a single day of reasonable dry fly conditions - torrents... Dreamed all winter of April - May hatches as those watyer conditions that can be so fine in May here - Not So... Let's hope that quick relief comes your way - those are beautiful waters... NB |

That is nice.... I like to be on the streams as the rain transforms the surroundings - a fine time to be out...
Great.. NB |

The rivers are low but the bugs and fish seem fine as of today.

Too many bugs last weekend and the fish had a hard time deciding which ones they wanted. Agree that the water is quite low and I understand that this is the first time in many decades that the first days of June have been this cold. Agree they are beautiful waters.........Jaybird, make sure you stop by and see the boys this week...........ol third meadow is bringing his full kitchen with him again this year I'll be stuck in DC at a conference.......my best to Dave.......hope to see you later this year

Fished a few of my favorite streams in the Richland center area (I'm not going to get more specific than that, sorry), last week and they were all up to
normal levels. The problem seems to be that those smaller streams all run down their own individual valleys, and some get rain, especially from thunderstorms,
and some don't.
Fishing was fantastic one day, both on dries and nymphs. A lot of 12-14" Browns, and the normal smaller ones. Not as good the second day, but still a bunch of fish and a great day. gofish |
