Fly Fishing - Boca Raton, FL |

There is a good chance I will be in Boca Raton this December for a wedding. I should have a few free days and was wondering what my fly-fishing options may
be. I would love to go after bonefish and/or permit and am not opposed to hiring a guide for the day. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

At that time of year your best shot is to go pretty far south in the Keys and hope you can dodge the cold front winds. A guide is almost a must to have any
realistic shot at getting onto fish. I'd recommend contacting Jeff Cardenas in Key West. He has a stable of top guides available. Plan to book early.

Thanks SnooKen. I did a little searching today and found a few options including Jeff. As far as tackle, it seems an 8 weight should do the trick. The
biggest problem may be making the 4 hr drive from Boca Raton to the southern part of the Keys. I'm not sure if I'll have a car to make the journey.

Here's another thought.......hop a commuter flight from Boca/Palm Beach to the Bahamas. Book one or two nights at a small hotel or lodge. You won't
need a car and you'll spend a lot less time not fishing.

you might want to try some of the guides up near West Palm Beach that go out for jacks, snook, and if you're lucky spinner sharks. You want to try
something out of this world, try catching a spinner shark on the fly......WOW. The guide that I use is Dino Torino. Real good guy. Something a little
different. Carlos

Be aware that December is "season" here in south Florida. The resorts, roads, restaurants, stores and beaches are full of "danged" Yankees.
Things finally get back to "normal" in May thru mid November. For us locals, off season is the BEST time of year. But you will have to hit the Keys
and hope for warm weather to find bones in December, or do like SnooKen suggested, and hop over to the Bahamas. But if you can't go far, there's great
fishing in the bays and creeks in December, as many species come in for warmer water. The backwater reds and snook fishing can be incredible that time of year.
An 8 weight rod is my all around favorite.
