Thanks for the info... Anyone know if Hardy's is teamed up with the Hotspur factory where it is some kind of joint venture so the Hotspur name will be on the production reels, or is the one on Bob's site a sample reel? I would suspect that price is going to be very popular with the Spey guys looking for a gear & pawl reel..... The reel does say "Made in England"
I think the "Hotspur" may be a nod to the Dukes of Northumberland . . . one of the early members of the Percy Family was Henry, known as Harry Hotspur. (see Shakespeares Henry 1V) |

enigma309 wrote:They've used the name before in the past, I'm certain about a Hardy Hotspur line winder, but maybe other products too. At $795 it seems quite "cheap" in comparison to the new Perfect. This is a huge reel, and I must say I really like it, the Hotspur logo (a quick search didn't find me a Hotspur company, who are they?) does suggest that at least some kind of agreement was made, and if that results in a genuine Hardy St. George Salmon reissue at a reasonable price I think this will be a very popular reel indeed. I'd buy one, and I don't even have a real use for it other than fondling and admiring it! Any information about others (the "normal" St.G sizes incl. the jr.) being released? Anyway, thanks a lot for the heads up!

I received my information from Hardy's in Pennsylvania and from the gentleman whose website the photos and information are from. I will be handling this
reel in a week from today at a fly fishing shop in Van Nuys, CA. I was initially told that the St. George Salmon reel will be a limited production item, but
have since learned that this is not Hardy's intention. Hardy's is hopeful that there will be enough demand to continue the reel's production, but
I tend to think the reel will be limited. The reel will come in a pouch similar to the type offered with the new Perfect reel. I was hoping Hardy's would
be offering a case similar to that of the 1903 Bougle' Reproduction reel.

Three weeks ago I visited the Hardy museum and country store as part of my two week holiday to Northumbria and the Lake District (UK), Argyllshire and
Spey-/Deeside (Scotland). Unfortunately the factory tours aren't offered at this moment because of health and safety regulations. Good to know, to prevent
disappointment, for anyone planning a visit.
In the country store I asked about the St. George being reissued. The gentleman very kindly went into the factory and brought me the prototype that is pictured in this thread (link in first post) to handle and look closely at, only after assuring a worker who walked with him to the door to be very careful with it and not selling it to me! I was told that they're still thinking about the finish (silver or black). I said I personally liked the black finish as applied on this reel as it quite closely resembles the pre-WWII leaded finish. The gentleman said he wholeheartedly agreed with me. Hardy hopes and expects the St. George Salmon to be very popular with salmon fishermen worldwide who prefer traditional, no-frills and click and pawl. When I asked about the trout size St. George reels being reissued, he made a reference to the St. George Jr. reissue of a few years ago being the last. When I said I meant a new run of St. Georges being reissued in the Heritage range he clearly stated there aren't plans to reissue the trout models at this moment. No reason not to believe him, but it might prove to be a case of preferring such information not to become widespread before its time. I sure hope so, a 3 3/8" LHW haunts my dreams ever since this thread was started. About the reel. It's a well made, surprisingly light weight and quite beautiful reel, but really simple in construction and design which makes it easy to understand that it'll probably not be offered in the same prize range as the Perfect. The gentleman confirmed that it carries the crest of the Duke of Northumberland. Although this thread had to be retrieved from quite afar I thought this would be interesting information to share. This contradicts what I heard from Hardy USA rep | #15 | ||

I recently met with the rep for Hardy USA who was travelling to dealers in the area. He told me that he didn't have all the details, but that there would
definitely be trout sizes available. C

I know it does, but I was "pretty close" to the source, and besides that I've learnt not to believe everything sales reps tell you.
But again, I hope I got some kind of a smokescreen treatment and that there will be other St. George reissues. We'll just have to wait and see... Wilfred de Bruijn

These reels look fantastic. Hope Hardy considers selling a two spool set, with one of each size spool. The flexibility of carrying two different line weights
to a river or beat might prove very popular.

"New products to see at the show include the Hardy St. George and Hardy Perfect Salmon Reels, both made in Alnwick, England." Anyone visited the Game Fair and got to see the new Perfect and St. George salmon reels? Any sign or talk of the trout size St. George reels? Wilfred de Bruijn

orange caddis wrote: That's good news, damm how many flies do I have to tie this winter to afford another perfect. At least their made in England. Mind you I did buy a Korean made Cascapedia and it's gorgeous.
Often I have been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar scarred, sunburned,
mosquito bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand have I been in a place that was less than beautiful.

Great news if it all gets confirmed. So far only the St. George Salmon and Salmon Perfect are confirmed by Hardy.
Anyone seen (pictures of) the 4 inch Perfect yet? Lineguard revolving NS or agate? Wilfred de Bruijn
