My latest -- No. 5 | #27 | ||
|
Hi,
thanks for all the inspiration. I never get enough of this thread. Finished this yesterday. It's a 7'3", #4-5, 2/2. It's based on a Günther Henseler taper from rolf Baginski's fine book. Hoping to try her out this weekend. Sorry for the poor photos. Idar ![]()

Here are the billets of Black Willow and Weeping Willow harvested from my trees at my camp
I sent these to the Gnome which is what the wood in the
mortised section is in the rod.............

School is over and the Gnome is back into the cave and the "Willow's" form fit case will be done this week.
I was teaching the "Professional Fly Fishing guide ll" course for Colorado Mountain College and that is what has slowed me down. Jeff |

7'9" 4/5wt Quad | #32 | ||
|
Here is my latest effort. This is a single tip rod for my own use, a 7' 9" 4/5 weight quad, the first rod from a taper I designed. Hollow built with
step down quad ferrules from Tim Zietak. Cigar grip, lightweight hardware and chestnut wraps with black tipping. Can't wait to give it a workout.

Jayhake,
Did you color preserve the chestnut wraps or just varnish over them? I think the color is great. Secondhandwolf |

Secondhandwolf,
Thanks. I did not color preserve the wraps. Like some other makers, I use a very thin coat of flex-coat lite epoxy for the first coat on the wraps. Then, I finish with varnish. I like the way it looks and I think it makes for a more durable wrap, but you really need to test them as the combination of the flex coat and the varnish seems to have a unique effect on the color. Cheers, Jay |

2 new rods | #37 | ||

I just finished these 2:
An 8013 tri-hex on top A Dickerson 8615 on bottom; a taper that I misunderestimated until I fished the North Platte in WYO this spring. \
