Topicality at long last. Thank you, enigma309.

. . . . . . that we can discuss ANY topic as long as we throw in the relevant "Piscatorial" quote?
or just save this Dylan quote for all occasions . . Brian |

Paha Sapa Bill and Martin. At last I found it. "The Ballad of Hollis Brown". And low and behold Bill the setting for the ballad is South Dakota.

It's pretty shameful that I didn't know it, Dave. It
isn't on the "Greatest Hits" album, is it? It's really a wrenching ballad, for certain. South Dakota has been known to deliver some good music about hard times. I have to go to the doctor tomorrow for my annual tune up and lube job. I might as well ask him to to toss in his powers-of-observation test, too. He holds up both hands, then puts them quickly behind his back, smirking. "Think hard, Bill. Which hand was it that had six fingers?" Sometimes I get it right. Oftener I don't. |

Bill, glad you and the Brunswick survived intact. And good luck with your physical.
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion on Sinatra, but I'd give Crosby top marks, if for nothing else, then for the lovely Grace Kelly. |

True, Mac. But then Ava Gardner might
complicate the issue for gentlemen who prefer brunettes. |

Remember the conversation of the two Minnesotans
after they've drawn and bet? Sven: So vat you got, Ole? Ole: Qveens. Sven: How many? Ole: Vun. Sven: You vin. You vin, Mac.

Grace Kelly? Ava Gardner? Kathyrn Grant?
What ever happened to classic beauty in the movies? Now we have Uma Thurman and Claire Danes and Juliette Lewis and the like. Did all the big moguls get hit on the head with blunt objects? Who wants Juliette Lewis on the casting couch? I just don't get it. Oops, I forgot... there is Catherine Zeta-Jones.... |

Brian, great Dylan quote. It appeared on his first album following the motorcycle crash, if I recall. Piano, slow beat.

Saturday, June 27--There has been a dearth
of issues and even of things to get off one's chest posted at the pandemic suggestion box lately. Although the hours kept here are normally irregular and the trade erratic, I'm beginning to understand how my local GM dealer feels. But always one to put the best construction on events, even on lack of events, I rejoice in our nearing problem-free stasis. For I have just learned from reading another thread, one having to do with classifieds, this is what we need at the forum. Maybe. Still, the air will get thinner and take some getting used to as we approach that lofty goal. |

Having been away lecturing, and having just returned and just this moment been drawn back into this thread, I find that a notable public servant has written
that it's all about "leftovers and scrapings from tired psyches of classic fly rod fishermen unable to find elsewhere a haven for their cares and
fantasies."
Well, okay then. I'll argue in favor of, hmm ... leftovers; fantasies; wooden bats; and Kiera Knightly. I recall riding on an elevator in Madrid with my father, when I was a little boy. The elevator stopped, and Ava Gardner got on. From my recollection of my father's reaction, I'll take Ava Gardner, too, unless I've already spent that draft pick on Miss Knightly. |

Now, gentlemen... one person's inanity is another's thought-provoking fly-fishing related discussion. Regardless, inanity or thought-provoking
fly-fishing related discussion, that makes it only two levels removed from what we're supposed to be about around here - classic tackle. As we've seen
over the last week or so, we are apparently more than willing to tolerate being several additional levels removed from our charter. I'd like to stay and
chat about all this, but I'm off to the cooking board to see if there's anything that compares with my grilled mussels and asparagus.
