Over the years some of my expensive cane rod bags have acquired a rather "UNSAVORY" odor. In the interest of protecting my rods, how do you clean
them??? Is it OK to wash them like most laundry?? w/wo detergent??/
As always, all advice is GREATLY appreciated.. CR&H

even without drying them I have had several shrink. Woolite handwash in sink hang dry seems to minimize Some of the really collectible all
original tube and sack rods get a new tube and bag for fishing use and the old bags put away for the unlikely event of me selling the rod. ..... I try to
keep a few bags around just for that purpose....
Todd Talsma at bamboorodmaking.com makes all sizes and will do custom pretty cheap...... (he has some cool prints too) |

I also use Woolite followed by line drying and a warm iron, and haven't had any problems with shrinkage. I only wash bags from newly-acquired rods as
needed though--I don't like losing that good Orvis smell...

I once washed a couple of odiously odoriferous rod bags; hand washed, cold water, line dried. Both shrank considerably. Made me wish I had my mother's old
curtain stretcher.

My advice is to cold wash in mild detergent. Do not dry but use a steam iron to press the bag and dry it. Hold onto one end of the bag as you do so and stretch
the bag as you iron it. Or you could try your local dry cleaners.
