About a year ago I was looking through the classified section of the board. At the time I had been consuming a great deal of my favorite beverage. The
libation began to fog my mind a bit. As it turned out about a week later, I began to get emails from board members asking if I was still interested in the
reel or the rod or book. I quickly apologized and began to send payments out. All of the sellers were very understanding and were happy to continue the
business that I had inadvertently started. I ended up with some really great tackle that I had no use for, and I was really broke. The question is, Would
this put me on the bad guy list?

This conversation reminds me of the cliche, The search for perfection is the greatest enemy of the good.
BTW, there is no forum prohibition against references to eBay. We do not allow specific items that are being auctioned to be discussed, nor do we allow sellers to be named, and we don't allow forum members to post notices that they have a certain item up for auction. As noted many times here, those are legal Yuku prohibitions. But forum members themselves seem to have adopted this recent phrase, "the site that cannot be named." It's almost like an urban myth, and has taken on a humorous life of its own. It's fine to name eBay in its proper context. :-) Pat |

Like you said Pat, it has taken on a humorous life of its own... I find it hilarious! I think it's hard to pass on the chance to use that phrase! (In the
meantime I'm trying to build up my number of posts... unluckily people know where I live

Got it.
I thought maybe someone had been burned on an e*** deal and this was the reaction to it. Not that that has ever happened before. |

Having been a pretty silent member of this forum I had better post this to start a track record. I have purchased a couple of items from this board and all
went well.

I would agree with splinters that yes it does leave a bad taste especially when the amount is more than a little. What makes it worse is when you sell a person
something or do work for them and they do not pay you or return the item if they are not happy. I guess as some have said live with it.

I have bought and sold on this board. It is a classified add. It has a distinct advantage being a specialty interest site. Many instances, the so called
expert, prove them selves dead wrong.

I wonder if it would change things if one could add a reply to the items in the classified section. I can understand that the "powers that be" do
not want it to become a pissing match. On my one negative experience, I called the guy out on the particular forum. I was contacted by a moderator and the
situation was resolved. After all was said and done, I was tossed from that site but did not consider it a great loss.

PYochim, until about a year ago, comments were possible on Classified posts. The policy was ended after a particularly egregious series of "hijacked"
posts, where forum members made "witty," and in several cases, insulting comments about the item being sold.

I think quash... "Maybe we should work a bit harder at complying with the few simple rules presently on the books..." and Phil (hermes)...
"It is a classified add [sic]. It has a distinct advantage being a specialty interest site..." said it best.
I'm not sure what the "bad incident rate" is, but I'm guessing that out of the total number of transactions that are initiated, it's not large enough to justify an attempt to legislate behavior any more than has already been done, let alone put the admin and mods in the position of having to enforce same... which they will undoubtedly be asked to do. It is a classified ad section - nothing more, nothing less - on an Internet site with 5600 registered users and probably a couple thousand other sets of eyes that come to peruse and perhaps contact someone who is selling or wanting an item without even having to register if the poster leaves outside contact information. While we (and that includes me) would like to believe that the fuzzy, warm Little Forum That Time Forgot is home to nothing but the best of intentions, we really need to remind ourselves that this is the Internet; home to the anonymous, the instant expert, the less-than-scrupulous and set our expectations - and then our behavior - accordingly. It used to be broken; it got fixed. It's not broken now; don't try to fix it again. Bob

Quash, DrakeBob: sounds like the simple solution would be "everyone act like an adult", no?
Regardless, as long as whatever the rules are, if they are easily found, clear, concise and evenly applied, that's the best that can be done. As Bob who is formerly known as "Formerly Drake" points out, its a classified ad section. Even people on craigslist get burned sometimes.

Wow. A couple of months ago, I sold 14 rods and four reels to members of this forum. I must have had a hundred inquiries total. Every communication and every transaction I had was civil and hassle-free (except for one rod that I myself damaged while packaging it; that rod was returned for a full refund). Every member I dealt with conducted himself as a gentleman. I'm not minimizing or questioning anyone else's problems -- maybe I was just really, really lucky. I prefer to think, however, that all but a minuscule number of our members are stand-up guys, as we say here in Brooklyn. |

And you folks need to remember... that the classified section is holding on by a thread. Any problems and the management is destined to drop that portion of
the forum. We had some problems a while back, and for the most part folks have behaved well since. I'm getting the feeling I may have gotten
"stiffed" on one deal... but I can handle that on my own.
This isn't a threat... it's a simple statement of fact. The one thing we do not want on the Forum are any problems... period. Thanks for Understanding, Ralph |

As I understand it no money or goods changed hands and the prospective "buyer(s)" simply did not follow up. Over the years I've been a member
here I've had similar events happen to me. Yes, it's annoying and if you really need to sell something it can be disappointing but, I don't think
this problem warrants the owners or administrators taking any action.
When the board first started a person could post without being a registered user. Then there was a spate of flaming and Clark made things so only registered users could post. There were only about 300 registered users at that time and the rule change really didn't prevent flaming though Clark could more easily identify the offending parties. We already have good sensible guidelines for using this forum. Implementing more rules is not going to correct bad behavior by a few folks. Given the number of registrants a few "no shows" seems pretty minor to me. If someone cuts you off on the freeway, call 911 and see what kind of response you get. Bob, make that "Boo Topia". (No offense intended towards the original poster) :>))
