I have a Tycoon Tackle big game rod that I think is a three strip rod that is D shaped and I bought a big aluminum Fin-Nor reel to go with it. As I look at it, it's more of a live bait or light jig rod. I also have big game or saltwater rods made by such prestigeous makers as Orvis, F.E. Thomas, R.L. Winston and they amaze me. I pulled out the Winston rod today and it was probably made back in the 1940's or 50's and I'm gonna need to rewrap the guides with size C nylon thread and it is complete with the Winston signature but unfortunately there is no serial number on the rod and someone scratched off the last name of the original owner. Looking at that rod with it's giant agate stripping guide and agate tip top and bell line guides it is a thing of beauty and will probably handle a line weight of 50-80 lbs. Definitely a trolling rod for fish up to around 100-180 lbs. I'm definitely gonna get a couple of these rods restored and fishable and they will blow the minds of anyone that knows about bamboo rods. It's even got the original Winston bag and the detached handle.
So who else has some rare, interesting or unusual big game bamboo rods?
Found my Tycoon and my Winston... Anyone want to see pics?
