Special Perfect in Hardy Selvyt bag with rod in hand logo
The Special Perfect was introduced fully leaded but after the first year Hardy decided to not lead the spool and they kept them in the white from that point on.
The 1904 check was an improvement on the 1896 check, it was stronger and less prone to skipping....
During WWI certain metals were scarce so Hardy made their reels without the ball bearings and these reels have been referred to as Eunuch Reels, this one is marked with having a Mk 1 Duplicated check.
The 3" Bougle' was made for von Lengerke & Detmold Inc NY and has the Duplicated Mk II check with both pawls engagable, the block leather case is impressed with Hardy Bros Ltd Makers Alnwick Eng in three lines.
The Uniqua's pictured are a 2 7/8" CA 1922 and a 1948 3 1/2" wide Salmon in clear finish.
Note: both Uniqua's have Duplicated Mk II checks with the Salmon having the heavy version but both are non-engagable spares.
The St George's shown are from the 50's, the Jr. has the Metal Line Guide and the 3" the Smoky Agate Line Guide.
The Jr. has an aluminum ribbed foot and the 3" a brass ribbed foot.
The St John shown is a Type 2 (as noted by the spool face) the Type 1 is different than the 2 in the configuration layout only that I am aware of.
Note the maker initials of TA for Thomas Appleby 1920-1946/47 and the heavy Mk II check with spare pawl and spring.
It is my hope that the different reels and check mechanisms will be helpful when you look at Hardy Reels for sale as none of the reels I have photographed have been altered, regards...........
