I have a friend that does excellent work restoring bamboo rods. He is actually my mentor at the moment and has provided me with lots of assistance in
restoring rods.
He recently obtained an 8' Montague Rapidan (3 piece). The butt ferrule, both male and female had been replaced with a later style gold ferrule with the rubber O-ring gasket on the male ferrule. The other sections of the rod have the Montague shouldered ferrules that have been blackened. I had one 17/64's ferrule in my meager collection of ferrules, of the type and size he needs, but it wasn't blacked. Would any one on the Forum, by chance, have a blackened replacement ferrule and be willing to part with it. If we can't find a blackened ferrule, would anyone have suggestions how we can blacken the plated ferrule we already have. I have attached a photo of the ferrule below. Ideally we can find the correct one, but if we could successfully blacken this one, that would be fine for the restoration.
Thanks for any assistance or ideas you can provide
