Been thinking of getting a 3 1/8" LHW, but I'm hesitant to plunk down that kind of money...

Who has a new Hardy 2009 Perfect? |

If you have one, what do you think about it? Do you fish it or are you saving it or collecting it? Do you think it is worth the money and do you think they
will appreciate in value? Is the current run of 500 reels it, or does Hardy plan to make more in the future?

Fabulous reels! I own a 2 5/8 inch LHW model, and it's being used frequently with 2wt bamboo and graphite. I'm sure they will appreciate in value,
especially when production stops at 500 each, but I personally hope this Perfect will be here to stay. If only the prices would just drop a bit...

I took the plunge earlier this year and acquired a 3 1/8 inch LHW version and do not regret it at all and use it frequetly.
The big plus (like the St. George 3 " from about a decade ago) was being able to acquire these in LHW. If I were comfortable with RH wind would have probably chased after some older reels - Perfect, St. George, Dingley etc. But in trying to refrain from being a collector of reels (still have about 10 more than I really "need") went with these newer left-handed versions. I dont really look at these as "reproductions" as much as a tried and true models that have been brought back into production. In the long haul - good stuff holds its value and I think these reels constitute "good stuff" I was fortunate to stumble upon one at some savings to take away a bit of the purchase price anxiety. Just my 2 cents - opinions on the short and long-term merits of these will obviously vary. |

The few complaints that seem to be around about the new Perfects are small issues if they remain as a limited edition. There has been some vocal displeasure
at the cost and how they could have taken the extra step of little things like a strap over the tension regular (that would have been very cool). Overall if
you want to fish a LHW Perfect they are groovy. Personally if I fished RHW reels, I'd go for vintage, but since I'm stuck in the camp of being a LHW
wind guy, they live up to my needs and expectations. If you throw in the aspect of sourcing and pricing out a vintage version it becomes a relative bargain!
There were probably some people that did purchase them expecting some windfall profits and quickly became sadly disappointed. I'd definitely recommend
them to someone that wants to fish with them.

I have a 3 1/8" LHW. If you're going to fish it, you will not be disappointed. I love mine...it is smooth, tough and well-made. It is quickly becoming
one of my favorites.

I've been mulling over the 3 1/8" LHW myself for a 6-wt. Does anyone have a link to specifics on the reel, actual weight and backing capacity?
Thanks, Geary |

I have 3 1/8" LHW and very happy that I put my money on it. It's great looking and sounding reel. Just the Perfect I want to own. I just hope they'd done 3 3/8"' s as well. Let's hope that rumours of St.George's in 2010 and hopefully also in size 3 3/8" would be true. -Jukka |

Mark, I appreciate the input. That certainly wouldn't work for a big brown that takes you down stream, and I'm not fast enough to chase one.
