I really like Joe Saracione Reels but am having a hard time with the different models made over the years and the reasons for the great range in prices. The
newest ones (Mark IV?) seem very reasonably priced compared to some older models. Can anyone help with the reasons for differences in cost for the same size
reel in his different models? Rarity? Quality of materials? Handmade? Mass produced? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 'best, JimP

The Mark IV's are very nice CNC reels. Well made, and more along the lines of his other Mark series reels. Bogdan-like in appearance..... Very nice; I
especially like the all black versions. about 800 - 900USD.
Joe's various Deluxe reels are vom Hofe Style, generally bench made with black delrin or rubber plates, SS or Nickel silver bands etc. Numerous incarnations of these reels if you search the forum archives......Long story short, hand made with prices to match. Very nice also. Generally 1200 - 2500 range. |

An older model - one of the small Saracione All American-series (SAA) I was lucky to get couple of years ago, and the guy have another bigger one I hope to be
able to buy some day
 .

reeldane, isn't the reel an "SCA" I had a couple that were so marked on the inside. hadn't seen an SAA model.

I suffer the same confusion, usually tied to the birthday of someone important. I love those reels, although a little heavy compared with similar reels, but
the engineering of the back plate attachment and release is a marvel. I've owned three and sold them all thinking it would be easy to find a replacement.
Now no such luck. I've even offered a removable back lhw robichaud as trade and had no bites. the SCA's are a nice reel.

For myself I really like the Perfection Joe did years ago. The Perfection covers looks, functions and balance for a stunning overall match with any
7'6" to 8'3" 4wt rod!!!

with the caveat that the perfection is probably 4 times more expensive than the sca reels.
