I grew up in MA and after a 4 year hitch in the Navy I came back but fell in love with several places along the way. Met my wife shortly after and when we saw changes where we were living that we felt were not good we moved to southern ME in the 70's. While it's nice here those things we saw creeping in on us over 30 years ago began showing up around here as well so we found ourselves gravitating toward western ME near the NH border in the White Mountain National Forest Region, plenty of water of all types, hunting as well and a place where a dog can be very happy especially a hunting dog like our Weimaraner.
Our vacation, and what was to be our retirement, home is 4 lots from the national forest in a town with a population of about 400. This was to be our retirement place until I got ill last year.
There are good hospitals close by, Steven King lives about 4 miles away and when he was struck by a hit and run driver he was attended by a volunteer emergency medical team from the small town our home is in. Those folks saved his life with the way they handled him and he didn't forget that. I happened to be coming home for medical needs as it was pre scheduled and only ended up being treated at home because of that. You have no idea how far money goes in a place such as this..........
