You can now see a little sneak preview of his new book on Amazon, just click on the picture of the book and turn the pages. If you haven't pre-ordered it
yet, now is the time. He informed me it on its way back to the states on the boat, so it wont be long now. CJ

Holy cow!
I just tuned in to this forum and I am glad to find about Mike's new book. It will be a must purchase for me, in fact, I'll order it right now. He used to be a neighbor of mine. His wife Val used to babysit my kids some 20 years ago. He told me he had a fly fishing/tying mentor in the Catskills, but he never mentioned the guy's name. Many years later he wrote the obit for Walt Dette in a fly fishing mag and I was able to put it together. A very nice man, and a very modest fellow to not drop such an illustrious name to me back then. Anyone know how I can get a hold of him? I have something of his that he may want back. |

I received my book today, all I can say that if you are into fly tying Catskill style flies, it'll be a cold day in Roscoe before one beats this one.

Got mine today too! The book has everything; history, great photos, and of course step by step tying instructions for a bunch of classic bugs. Very much
worth the wait!

Christian:
if it doesn't have to be a limited edition, I actually ordered 2 from Amazon. One is mine, the other we can try and get Mike to sign for you if you want. Did you try PMing/emailing him to see if he has some on hand he could sign? Jeff Hatton did this with Rodcrafting, Mike may have had some copies shipped directly to him to have on hand.

and it was the postman who delivered me a box containing my autographed copy of Mr. Valla's book and a clear presentation box with a Light Cahill tied by
him...can't wait to dig in, open a beer, and read all that he has written and look at all the pics, both new and historical, from a wonderful time and a
important era of American Fly Fishing...#14/25 is worth every dime I paid, thanks to Mike Valla and the CFFCM for doing this donation and contribution
activity...dj

Scotch, single malt, not beer. Bourbon would be an "okay" alternative.

Picked mine up on Amazon also, this is a splendid read even for us on the lefty coast who don't have the Dette's and Darbee's in the back yard like
the NEstrs. The first hand contact, the historical perspectives and the fantastic tying collection are special. I started reading last night and didn't
put it down until after 11. Great job Mike.
