Posts: 2826 07/02/2009 20:10	Tags : None so and so bamboo fly rod! Yeah, I wish all the time. Can't really explain why! The ole bamboo bug biting at my ass I guess. The rods I own meet all my needs, but there it is in my head...........sure wish I owned a so and so rod. Is this a neurological blip or a psychological one? Got me thinking about the rods I would truly love to own and fish. My ole blood starts to pumping when I think of a pristine Heddon Model 50 President 8' 1 3/4F, a Fred Thomas Special (special) 8 footer, a E.W. Edwards Autograph Model, or a Hiram Hawes any rod less than 8 1/2'. Let's just throw in a E.C. Powell 8 footer for fun. Don't forget a Goodwin Granger 8040, oh yeah! Yeah, I kinda like 8' rods. Modern makers..........don't even get me started!! John Bradford, Dave Male, Homer Jennings, John Gallas, George Guba, Mike Clark...look, I'm gonna stop there, don't want to bore you to tears. Just curious if others are afflicted with this gotta have mentality? At least I haven't gone nuts about this major glitch in my thought processes......yet! Any thoughts in this regard? Yeah, don't send the looney buggy just yet. I haven't slipped the bonds of righteous thinking.......I think! bobbyg Go Heels!!!

Posts: 2828 07/02/2009 21:10	Well, now that I think about Dan, you're probably correct. If I was in need of a 4 piece pack rod, Fred Thomas would probably be my first choice. Thomas rods are, in my opinion, the best all round production rods ever built. Full gamut! Paynes are right there also. Kinda makes you wonder what a Thomas/Payne collabaration might have wrought? Posts: 676 07/03/2009 01:08	I cast a Brandin 7'6" 5wt quad the other day. It isn't a rod that suits my fishing style or even one that I would normally use. But that rod was the most amazing piece of wood I've ever cast. It was simply outstanding in every way. I really, really want one...although I can't think of many uses for it. In fact, I also cast a Brandin 8' 4wt quad the same day...it is a far better match for me and the way I fish. But that short little 5wt just sang to me. "You know how much I *love* a nice rack!"

My thoughts exactly Bill! This is complicated by the fact I own a 7' Heddon President. She has stated, hey, you already own one of them President thingies! If one President is good enough for the country, why must you have two? A pretty dadgum good argument on her part. There are always a few surprises even if at first you don't see or feel it. Some times it's not apparent at first. You need to experience, sometimes just go with the flow. In the line of this thread, I have FINALLY learned that no matter how much I think I NEED a rod, it never satisfies me like I thought it would. It goes into the closet, I close the door and begin longing for something else. It's a vicious cycle. But if someone offered me a 7', 2/2, GG DeLuxe, it would probably stay out of the closet for a long time. The New Divine Rods

I started with a 12-hole fly rod rack a few years ago and have added four more places over the last six years, despite my resolution to stop at a dozen, followed by my resolution to stop at a baker's dozen, in turn followed by my last resolution to quit cold-turkey at 16 holes (two shy of a golf course--so quite a show of restraint). Now, of course, there are more holes than rack. It's going to be embarrassing when the whole thing collapses noisily nder its own weight. I couldn't quite force myself to pull the trigger at around $1,200 or so as I recall. I regret that decision ever since. . . ..
