Does anybody know if Bo is still making reels? He has a website but it's not clear how up-to-date it is? I read somewhere that he had been injured and was no longer making reels.

Mohlin's Baby Trout Pics & a Question |

This lovely Bo Mohlin Baby Trout came to me in a trade. The burl handle is definitely not standard fare on his classic series. Lovely, Bogdan-quality
workmanship and the best fixed clicker I've ever encountered.

Hi Olaf,
Thanks for the URL. I had visited Bo's site prior to your post but I wasn't sure that it's existence means that Bo is still active. I've sent him an email with a few questions about his current production schedule and pricing. That's the part that is most unclear to me. BTW, I visited your site. Lovely cane work. richard |

Richard:
I sent an inquiry to Bo, through his site, about the possible purchase of one of his reels, the day before yesterday. He personally phoned me today (from Sweden to Canada) to discuss the particulars. He obviously is still making reels.

This is very interesting. I found a trail on a spey forum from supposedly the website maker saying he had serious health problems.
I guess in cyberspace you don't know what is true and not. --> http://www.speypages.com/...ve/index.php/t-21660.html |

The trail listed here has post dates from May and June 2006, so I would think oldfishbrain's recent contact would be more accurate. |

i didn't doubt oldfishbrain's word at all, but this guy (Erik) was supposed to be his website maker and distributor.
I also saw a very recent post (May08) on the uk flyforums.co.uk by an american who had problems getting delivery on a reel he had ordered and paid for. I'd like a Mohlin too, but I'd think long and hard before putting down hard cash.

The phone call I had from Bo last August was the last I heard from him regarding getting one of his reels.

Bo (Bosse) Mohlin is very active and still going strong - despite some heart problems, which seems to be under control. I met him last this spring at the
Federation of Fly Fishers Fly Festival i Denmark - and he looked sharp as ever.
So if you are after a high quality flyreel (trout or salmon) he's the man ! Reeldane (ps: If a direct phone no is required - pm me) |
