I remember seeing this reel several years ago; I think it, or a similar one, was for sale on e-Bay. Perhaps someone at Atlantic Salmon Federation could help
with the identity of the maker.

If I'm not mistaken, I seem to recall this reel was advertised years ago (one or two times), perhaps in the early 1990s in Fly Fisherman Magazine, and was
made in Florida. I seem to recall this only because it seemed odd to me that a reel of that design was made in a state that typically produced saltwater fly
reels, i.e., Seamaster, Fin-Nor, Pate/Tibor, Emery, Catino, and others. A picture of the reel showed only the handle side. I had no idea the reel
incorporated the Bogdan features on the drag side. I could be wrong about the reel's origin but that's my two cents worth. Hopefully, someone will
have the answer soon.

I contacted the Atlantic Salmon Federation, and they nailed it!!. The reel is either a Noel, a Robichaud, or a Paul Hermann.......I'm not kidding, that was
their response via email. In all fairness they simply couldn't remember for sure, it has been a fair amount of years since the reel was either awarded or
auctioned. The Noel make was deemed most likely.
So there you have it...........not sure what it is! Bob |

Over that time frame(90's) I donated several salmon reels to the ASF banquets..mostly to the Montreal banquet,,but also the Portland banquet and even one
to the FQSA dinner,,,,I'm happy to say they raised quite a bit of money for a cause I care a lot about...Although I would be the first to admit my work has
been greatly influenced by past and present salmon reel masters(Walker for style and Stan B for his wonderful Model A Ford drag and gear system and the
greatest contribution of a modern master in many moons)...I have never done a knock off reel of a master in my life....and oh goodness....that reel handle?
functionally fine but is is truly not my cup of tea....rm

Okee dokee,, I too knew i had seen this somewhere before so i went back through some salmon journals and low and behold,,, the Summer 1990 issue had it
featured in George Gruenefelds "Whats new in reels". While certainly not a Bogdan it is a copy of the 00. The 424 has a rosewood handle and the reel
itself is "marginally lighter". Same brake design as Stans and the 424 is also a double action. The thought for this reel was conceived at Middle
Camp on the G-Cascapedia but the reel itself was born in Florida "according to specifications laid out by Bob Erra, the designer of the Abel single
action reels. The run on these were 500 reels. They had a suggested retail price of $675us. A 424 was sold at ASF Montreal dinner for $875 and one auctioned at
the Toronto dinner for $1000
Good night all. Hardy Guy

I just got back from a week long steelhead trip or I would have chimed in sooner. The information provided by Hardy Guy is correct. The last time I talked to
Bob (about four years ago) he still had new reels to sell and we briefly discussed ways for him to move them. Now, he didn't have hundreds, but he did have
quite a few. He's quite a character, though I guess the same could be said about many, if not most, of the really good reelmakers. This is not the only
design he's made, either. I remember him mentioning at least a couple of models that were quite a bit different in design. This is one case where I wish I
had kept detailed notes.
