I'm looking for general comments about these rods. I'm considering either a 7'6" or 8' 5wt. Any info greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,
I own the 7f 6in 5 line rod, you are asking about, It,s a nicely built rod, It looks like there has been thined down epoxy, used on the green whippings, They would have looked better finished with a varinsh, some of the thread work, could have been packed a little tighter. As for the taper, it has a soft tip, with a very strong butt. Nice to fish medium stream with, i cast mine with a 4 line, it,s not a rod for handling a lot of line, out from the tip ring, or casting heavy flies. If you keep it simple the rod, fishs nicely. When casting, if there is to much force used in the foward cast, you will feel the tip bounce, can be a real pain, if the wind, starts to pick up. Hope this helps. |

Hi Jim,
I have Gorman's 7'6" for a #4 in his Rawson Place series and I suspect the tapers he uses are consistent with the Metowees as I can second the comments made by Brookstalker. This rod is a nice caster from about 40' on in. Unfortunately, there are the issues of rough areas of finish at the wraps and one of the tip sections does not fit as well as I would expect at the ferrule. Also, you should know that Gorman has a taste for very small diameter grips. I have larger hands and yet I like a narrower grip, but this one is not far from the diameter of the spacer in the reel seat. I wish I could include a picture for you. I remeber that Len Codella is quite familiar with this maker and he may be another resource for you. All the best. |

Hi Pigumm
I,m glad you added, the problems of the ferrules, In my case, the 2 tips-male ferrules, where way over sized, to fit the female ferrule. Laped them myself. This made me think, was the rod joined together, before it was shipped. most likely not. Or it would have become a 1 piece rod. The finish around the guides, has started to lift. Think in time it will be redone. I wonder is this a problem with roberts rods.????.. |

Ron is very familiar with the rods and the rodmaker. You should definitely drop him a line.

Green River Metowee looking for a new home | #6 | ||
|
If you haven't found your rod yet, I have a 4 wt Green River Rod which is in brand-new condition that Robert Gorman built for me in 2003. The recession is
forcing me to sell one of my beloved bamboos, and it's either this one or my St Vrain Special by Mike Clark. So if you'd like to make an offer for the
Green River 4 wt. I'd be happy to send it to a new home. I paid $1650 for it, and it still is like new, because I mostly fish the St Vrain. Contact me at

NorthBranch wrote: I have the same rod as NorthBranch (Mettowee 604) and would would have the same things had he not written it already. I met him at his shop about 10 years ago when I was living in Brattleboro, VT for a short time. Meeting the rodbuilder adds a lot to ownership of a handcrafted rod for me. |
