I finally located the folks that make the shoemaker's wax I bought many years ago. The fellow was really nice and said that since I only needed one
"sack" that he'd just send me one for free. I have a one pound block of the stuff now and only need a fraction of it. This is the same
shoemaker's wax that the guys at Anglersmail in Cleveland, Ohio turned me on to back in the 1970's. It's an ivory white color and made from rosin
and other things. It's quite tacky and was most excellent to use on silk thread...back when we all used to use silk thread. It really enables the silk to
tighten onto the hook and materials.
I'll gladly send a tying-sized chunk out to whoever wants it. I figure I have about a dozen I can send and still have enough left for myself.
