Myself fishing Bullington Manor on the Test - not because it is a typical water for me to
fish but because it is not, and was a very special experience.
Like the hunter, the hawker and the fowler, the fisherman takes life in finding his pleasure. It is reasonable to ask
of him that he make it as keen and thorough and satisfying, as productive of growth in himself as he reasonably can. For only then can it be the strong and
sensitive pleasure of a civilised man.

Saw the picture in a book, liked it, decided to use it for the plate on my formfit for my GRW rod. I hope that Jeff's eyes and sanity have recovered..

Mine's a picture of the best damn companian, family member and hunting dog I ever had. Her name was Beki, and that picture of her was taken when she was
around 10 years old. She was Hungarian by birth, and Viszla by breeding. Without a doubt, the sweetest, most loyal, and happiest dog I've ever had the
pleasure to call my friend. We had to put her down just shy of her 13th birthday, and without a doubt, that was one of the toughest days of my life.

Some time back one of our more illustrious artists offered up a couple of avatars and I selected one that was appropriate for me at the time and stuck with it.
I usually and more typically associate with this fellow and use it on another forum...

My avatar is all about the fishing hat. I am just the manikin to model it. I found the hat when cleaning up my daughter's bedroom after she went to
college. Brand new it just begged to be worn. As I needed a new fishing hat I started wearing it to fish. Then women on the stream would take notice and strike
up conversations far more frequently than in the past. Voila, I now had a chick magnet.
Late in that first summer my wife and I were fishing on a sandbar in the middle of the river when a family of my wife's acquaintance happened to land on the same sandbar. As my wife and the woman of the family were chatting and I am fishing I heard a little voice at my elbow say "Mister, I like Winnie the Pooh, too!" I looked down and here was one of the cutest little 4 year old boys. The hat is showing its age and I am now casting about for a replacement. It will be replaced eventually, but I can still hear and will never forget that 4 year old's voice and sentiment. Steve |

Near the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont...there were three fish in the catch pool: a small brookie, a smaller brookie, and a wild and crazy
rainbow that dance somersaults over a #18 Patriot from the tail up to the shaded underfalls before she wriggled off the barbless hook. It was a magical spot,
so I took a shot of it and Photoshopped it into "Watercolor" mode for fun and it stuck. My wife has a print in her office.

It's the place I love to spend my weekends, my little yurt in a driftless valley.

I was a climbing bum for a while, mostly rock and ice. Fell in love with South America and spent 6 months climbing in Ecuador and Peru. Pisco was the first
high altitude mountain I did, 18,864 ft, in Peru. Although I did bigger things, it always stood in my mind. There's nothing like lying in your tend for a
week for a storm to pass, bored out of your mind willing to do anything. When the weather clears, you are so ready, fear never comes to your mind. I picked up
fly fishing knowing that I can't climb forever. I needed something to connect me to nature when I'm old and grey (or bald which ever comes first).

My avatar is a picture of the Smith Bridge on Michigan's Au Sable - one of my favorite places on the planet. It certainly isn't mountainous or rugged.
No 10 mile hikes to wet a line and no 10 pound leviathans waiting when I get there - at least I haven't caught any!
It isn't my best picture and it isn't where I caught my biggest trout or most trout or any of those kind of things. It is just a beautiful little stream that just feels right when I get there and look forward to getting back when I have to leave. Sometimes it's crowded but the people you'll meet there are usually quite pleasant and its not a bad place to sit on the bank and watch the world go by for an hour. I've certainly fished bigger and smaller streams in much more dramatic and beautiful settings but this one just seems to fit me - not much flash, steady and dependable, rain or shine. FFP "He told us about Christ's disciples being fisherman, and we were left to assume...that all great fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly
fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman."

Huckleberry Finn is my idol. Many times a week I envy his simple care free life style. Nick Lyons made a great link between Huck and fly fishing:
"Fly fishing will always be lots of different stuff to different folk: a genial past time about which the less said the better; a respite from other lives; a sojourn in pretty country; an adventure, pure and simple; a chance to be on the water with a few old friends; a place to work out what the poet John Engels calls a "coherent discipline"; a chance to play Huck Finn; a place to solve dilemmas; an opportunity for maniacal frustrations; and much much more" If nothing else, a smiling and waving Huck can only take the edge off of words that may be misunderstood or taken too seriously. |

Just my business folks but there is a short story behind it. The West Slope Fly Fishing Society was a mythical Fly Fishing Club of Wild Men & Trout Bums
that tried to fish at least 4 to 5 days out of the week. Boy, those days are over for me now! My drive time went from 20min to reach the River to 4hrs but my
buddies back home are still trying to keep up the tradition of waders never dry
With the lower water levels in the last 2 years this has been hard on the fish populations and frustrating for the fisherman. I'm sure some of
you can relate!
I grew up on the West Slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Tried to fish just about every small Stream or River in these parts as trails permitted. Mostly landing good size wild Rainbows, Browns, Goldens and Brookies. Sometimes all in the same day in the higher elevations around 10,000ft. The old grand slam! We had Yosemite to the North and Kings Canyon National Park to the South East and all points in between. It was a great place to grow up and I enjoyed living in this area for over 45 years! Going back to the West Slope and fishing these areas is where I fine Peace....so many good memories! I'll never forget my roots, the place where it all started for me! |

Easy, as it was a very special fish on a special water: Iceland, September 2007 on the Viddidalsa, nice salmon (actually my first Atlantic salmon would you
believe it...lost four before that) on a Hans Schlecht FIBH-ferruled Garrison taper 8,5ft #7/8 light salmon rod, Siskiyou reel. Only afternoon we had half
decent weather, good light for taking pics and fishing during a week-long trip. Finally even got to try Iceland horsemeat on a horse farm. Guess the shock some
of the riding tourists went through when they were served their beloved animals on the plate!
