I have a Jeff Wagner 7'1wt, which is a delight for slightly bigger water and Trikes. It's predicated on an HLL Fairy Catskill, but is more competent
than any of that series.
Also use a Harry Boyd 7'7"2wt Magic Midge, for slightly bigger yet waters. Anxiously awaiting a Mike Shay 6'6"2wt Lil Debbie. Ffished one for awhile a coupla years ago, and it handles a surprising variety of bigger flies without strain. My mostest fave 3wt a 7'6" hollow hex Robert Sigman, a sheer delight for dries; but this year WR Taylor's 8', also a hollow hex has replaced it as the fave 3wt. The latter is an even sheerer delight. The previous fave 3wt to these 2 is my 6'6" Leetle Feller of SF persuasion. I've noticed that my graphite stroke makes many of my 3wt lines work just fine on otherwise 4 wt rods like the Hardy Marvel and the Orvis Flea. This is especially the case with a Phoenix WF that has a Per Brandin taper. Need to fill in the 7' hole sometime. And that Bolt 7'3" is awfully tempting. His work is more sympatico with me than much of the later work from the fellow he got his equipment from. Wintertime here in SE PA can be very demanding on spring creeks, with low clear water and marginal hatches making the trouts warier than during more clement times. With very long leaders and 8X or finer, and even using 1wt silk with plastics (graphite even, and glass) I find 1 and 2wts are advantageous. tl les |

00... sorry, Slate. Why don't you vote like you're all the way up to a 1-weight and we'll asterisk the results.

Nope. He's of the Mayfly Drakes. I'm from the Duck Drakes. Please see my avatar... a drake woodie for which I have no special story to post in the
Ephemera board other than that I thought he displayed the great flank feathers that run in the family.

Hello DrakeBob,
Do you have any barred woodduck feathers? Bring them to the next TU meeting. Do you tie flies? your old friend, AJ |

What kind of barring, AJ? Black and white or lemon? I've got plenty of both but the latter will cost you... big time. I don't give up my flanks to
just anyone.

I could use black and white, and lemon. I'll put them to good use and would even tie a few for you??? That would be a nice Christmas present.

I've seen your dry flies. They have two right wings.
Have a Merry Christmas, Armand... Bob

I usually tied them with no wings, sometimes two left wings, or top and bottom. I'm learning. I'm having trouble with Latin Names. Sometimes it's
best to forget mayflies and just fish caddis flies? Merry Christmas
