All of us on this board can recognize and might even subscribe to the idea that a major advantage of cane over graphite is the ffish-holding capability, delivered by a more limber system. Very light line rods are simply an extension of that.
For my purposes, the light line choice is driven by the use of 7X or 8X ( or even finer when I/the trouts am/are feeling anal or possibly morbid) which in turn is driven by small (dry) flies ) #22 and down, on cutup current tongues that produce microdrag and even just plain drag. If your ffishing is on bigger water, whether to bigger ffish or not, and you can get away with large flies and 5X or even coarser, than you are inhabiting a different realm than this thread. Good on you if that's available to you. I do indulge myself on less harried and more gullible trouts whenever I can, but invariably that requires a plane flight several hours to the West or a multi-hour road trip up into the PA or NY boonies.
