Gates' Au Sable Lodge, on the Holy Waters of the mainstream of the Au Sable River in Grayling, MI. Wait for the BWO hatch this time of year, and eat 30
feet from the river.

I never eat breakfast before fishing in the early AM. But a great burger and a beer afterward, now I can always manage that.

When on my way to streams in the Missouri Ozarks, I try to schedule a stop at Diana's Diner in St. James. Best Denver omlet on the planet. Abe's on the
San Juan has a warm place in my heart as well. Harry's Diner in Sheboygan is a must if I am anywhere nearby. While the thought of mixing fried potatos,
saurkraut and ham and then serving it for breakfast is not something that would have occured to this colesterol addled brain, the dish is spectacular.

If you pass thru Bailey, Colorado drop in at El Rio just upstream from the town. Breakfast to dinner.

Dennis,
Well, I do admit occasionally eating breakfast before fishing. On several occasions I stopped in Ennis on the way to the upper Big Hole to catch Brook Trout and ate the Cafe. While Ok, I never found anything exceptional about the food or place except the 1940's style commercial refrigerator. My fishing partner was a dealer in used kitchen equipment and always remarked that it was a wonder it was still in existence. On those trips to the Big Hole we usually ate at Rose's Cantina in Jackson (MT)...which I can honestly say was an event to remember. There was also another eating place in the middle town that had a tall sign indicating that they would cook your catch. We always kept a few fat Brookies and had dinner there... very reasonable. I doubt if Rose's or the other place is still in existence. Ah for the old days!

Andy,
You're right it's Campfire Lodge. I fish below Hebgen right by lodge all the time. Now that I know they serve breakfast I'll have to try it out next spring/summer when it opens again. Dennis |

Dennis, Great place to meet a moose or a griz! Some years back I ran into a moose down where the Madison goes into Quake Lake. Even though it was non-rut late
August, he did not appreciate my presence. I retreated.
