I use to own a Phillipson PowerPakt 7'6" and an 8'6". They were great rods and I loved the action. Then I met Hoppy. He brought a couple FE Thomas' and a Jennings rod to a bamboo gathering. Well I sold the Phillipsons plus a couple other Phillipsons and started buying the tradiditonal eastern action rods. Cost me thousands, but when you are in love (not with Hoppy) the money spent was worth it. I don't think they are rare. I bet if you posted a WTB a Phillipson PowerPakt on the ForSale area, you would get a few offers.

I have 7', 7 1/2' and 8 1/2' Powerpakts. Haven't found a 8' that wasn't "tired".

I have owned 7'6", 8, 8'6" Power Pakts
I liked the 7'6" the least because mine was a 6 weight and it felt stiffer than the other lengths. The 7' Phillipson is a 4 wt Peerless model and I still own it The 8 was a very nice dry fly 5 wt and the 8'6 floated the Gunnison and landed several large trout and was quite versatile as I threw large dries, dry/dropper, and streamer fished all in the same day. IMHO all Phillipsons are good values and the 7' 4wt is especially nice and under appreciated as a quick little small stream rod. 7 and 7'6" are not rare but you don't often see them for sale. |
