Posts: 1 01/07/2008 02:02	Tags : None I have recently purchased a Pezon et Michel at an Estate Sale The Rod is in Very Good Condition. It is a 2 piece rod with 2 tips(both are numbered 1 and 2 The butt end of the rod is metal and says: Pezon et Michel, Paris Amboise. On the reel holder piece it has the French flag 6inches up from hook keeper. There is writing on the rod above cork handle: Specialty Made for Norm Thompson(Founder of a Portland OR, fly fishing outfitters store that was known for its high end fishing gear) By Pezon et Michel Charles C. Ritz(invented the telescoping rod and founded one of the most exclusive fishing clubs during the 50's 60's and 70's. The "Fario Club" "Varioscope" HS/RL(????) 9'(either weight of rod or length????) There is a number right above the cork handle: 257661 Does anyone know how much this rod it worth? I am not sure if I should use it as my salmon rod or keep it as a display piece. Posts: 2041 01/07/2008 06:05 Immoderatus Britannicus	Hi Jeff, P&M Variopower 9' - Glass fibre butt section and bamboo tips, not sure of value - being French made P&M often do not bring the prices they deserve in the US market and with this being a hybrid rather than one of their 'classic' all bamboo rods it is difficult to estimate. So for value I would say $150-200 and if it casts well and you like I would use it. Norm Thomson was a distributor also for Sharpe's English made rods and others.

Posts: 10 01/12/2008 05:39	The Variopower is not a popular rod in the P&M line. I've once described it as a pretty woman with a wooden leg. Over here in Europe it's largely regarded as a failure, allthough that's a little harsh. Whereas a P&M PPP with two tips sometimes easily fetches around 600-900 euros, these Variopowers usually bring 250-300 euros if they are in a very good condition. The Farlows, Abercrombie & Fitch, Sharpe's and other export P&M rods are worth less. Your particular rod would typically sell for slightly more then 200 euros over here.
