SNAKE BRAND UPDATE |
Lead | ||
|
awhile back there was a post concerning delays in response from the snakebrand guides concerning orders. cant seem to find it so i`ll post what i`ve found out
here. just got off the phone with Sue . she told me that the freak electrical storm that tore through Vancouver wa. fried their machine that makes the guides
.there in the middle of an extensive repair operation due to the fact that the machine is of foriegn manufacture and needed a knowlegable field rep to come and
repair it. they have stock on hand in bronzed guides and are filling small orders but until they get the machine back up there will be delays . She forsees a
return to normal operation in 2/3 weeks. Dennis

Why not just make your own snakes? It's cheaper and adds to the rod.......I think. No need to wait |

When I did the Oregon Bamboo interviews for Snake Brand, they were still in Newberg, Oregon {now they are about 15 miles north of the border}. Some of the
machinery was so loud
it was located about three miles out of town in a
barn.
At the time they were still bending by hand and hand straightening every guide! What their process does is make a straight, true scale, flat and properly
footed guide on a production basis.
Mike was working on a machine to help them out. It was in a room without a window. "No photographs of it, please!" He also said something to the effect that he had turned down requests by possible Oriental gentlemen who wanted tours of their works {Chinese copies?}.
The amount of time and labor that Mike & Sue have devoted to their business deserves respect, and patience while the machining problems are solved. JHector |

Snake Brand guides are worth the wait... | #5 | ||
|
In my opinion, Snake Brand guides are the very best available. They are exceptionally consistent in quality, foot length, they're true on all axes, and are
genuinely tapered at the ends which eliminates tedious grinding of the feet. (I've seen a makers who claimed no foot filing was necessary, but these are
the first that really fulfill the promise.)
In all my years of working with guides, they are the best for ME. They aren't right for real restoration, but if you're using new guides, they are great. I've bought hundreds of their snakes and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. I hope they get the machine back up soon....I need a couple hundred more!

Just spoke to Mike at Snake Guides a few minutes ago. They are still waiting for repairs. It's sort of like waiting for the cable repair man....they keep
promising to be there, but then they are delayed for some reason. If Mike had any hair, he'd be pulling it out. He's as frustrated as one can be.
Nothing to do but wait.
However, he said they are committed to running seven days a week and double shifts and whatever it takes to get caught up as soon as the machine is back in operation. If you need strippers, he's got 'em. Might have some of the larger size snakes in stock if you just need a few. Out of 1/0 snakes in all colors. That's not what we all want to hear, but that's where it stands as of today. Me? I'm waiting. Not going to use lesser guides.

Great news: I received my order from Snake Guides today. It appears that the snake machine is back online. Just thought I'd let you know they are getting
caught up!

I spoke with Susan this morning and was told the machine is still down and they are waiting for an electric motor of some type.
Maybe yours were hand made? |

My order was for all black guides and tiptops.....maybe that was the difference. Don't know.
