Every once in a while, the tables do get turned. Tonight, my wife's book group has descended on the house. I tried to make myself useful and blend in... started the fire, opened the wine and then stayed to greet all the ladies as they arrived. Despite my obvious lingering and offer for them to just treat me like another one of the girls, it was very delicately intimated that they had things to discuss that I just wouldn't be interested in. So I'm barricaded in my office with the dog. I can report that the old drinking-glass-to-the-wall trick doesn't work real well.

Ladies & Gentlemen,
Great dialogue. Current count is 66/4. We'll keep this alive a while longer, but the ladies are well below that 48% faux statistic that got this poll going. Pink, excellent rebuttal posts. Glad to hear you're out there leaping rocks. Gracefulness never enters my mind when I'm doing the same, nor should it yours. Or is this the Venus & Mars divide?! Banjo, well said & timely. We usually see two or three ladies a year fishing the streams of SW Wisconsin, however, last June on a trip to the Bighorn, there were several ladies fishing every day, both in driftboats and wading. They all were accompanied by a male counterpart, but were fishing nevertheless. Some years ago, I was fishing the Middle Provo, and a young lady clad only in wading boots, a bikini swimming suit, a baseball cap and a fly vest fished downstream past me. She was accompanied by a very large yellow Labrador, who glared and growled at me the entire time we were within speaking distance. She had a bamboo rod, also. I started carrying a camera after that. gofish |

When I was 15 I was living in Germany. One summer I walked down to a small river that flowed near a local village. A narrow path wound along the stream edge,
& I walked along awhile. On the outside of a curve, beside a huge tree that leaned into the river, two girls who looked to be in their early 20s were
sitting, both topless, on a large flat rock, one laying on her back & other just sitting, looking utterly bored. The one sitting up was smoking. I
instantly knelt, feeling instantly guilty.
But I stayed, watching, for 5 minutes or so. They chatted, speaking German, which I spoke poorly. I was about 30 feet away, scared they'd hear me breathing. Or something. Nobody was fly fishing, I assure you. After that 5 or 6 minute eternity, I slowly slipped away, although my heart was racing. I've often thought about how differently I might have handled that encounter at age 25, or 30, or even 40. Since then, my stream encounters have been... well, just 100s of naked fish.
