Can the Remco reels be easily user convertible or do you need parts to do it? I've had some apposing views and just want to get some clarity on this. Thx

I haven't tried it as mine is a LHW but I remember looking at that some time ago and figured it is doable. I think that someone would have to have a real
good pair of hands, decent tools and be fairly organized as it looks the reel would have to be completely dismantled and the frame parts reversed when
reassembled. Lots of parts to remove but it looks like it shouldn't be too difficult, main frame component looks to be symmetrical and it looks like the
line guard and reel foot supports just flip over to the other side of the frame. Small allen wrenches, phillip screwdriver, small ratchet set should do it.

Reversing Remco reels | #3 | ||
Canebum wrote: Canebum Ari used an anti-reverse needle bearing for each different direction of wind. So if you want to change a RHW to LHW, you need to replace the needle bearing on the spool shaft. You can contact Jeff Bowen in Santa Fe, he was the sole importer for ATH Reels for many years. He should be able to change it for you or sell you the correct bearing. When I had mine I was told that it took a special tool, which did not come with the reel, to change it over.

The tool being referred to is the hexnut wrench that removes the drag knob retaining hexnut. It is nearly impossible to find a tool that correctly fits this in
the US. I got one directly from Ari years ago and the handle just cracked on it this past week. In order to change the bearing house, the hexnut must be
removed and the drag knob spun off. So, some type of tool is necessary to change the one-way bearing from LH to RH. A fairly competent machinist could probably
make a tool that would work.
