I called the boys a couple of times about 10 days ago. No return call. On the third call, I was able to speak to Glen and he advised that the rod tubes and
bags were no longer an issue. I asked about the two rods I have on order, just to get a projection on possible delivery dates. He advised he would have Jerry
call me. It's been about a week and I am still waiting on Jerry's call. My rods were projected for delivery in January and March, respectively, back in
October .... So, not sure what to tell you. Hopefully we will see some rods start to go out. Ric

I was told they were just waiting on the tubes and that mine was all but finished. Jerry told me no later than April, but he thought it might take that long
to get the tubes, maybe soon!!!!! It will be worth the wait, I am sure.

Nice phone call from Jerry just now... | #8
|
Expecting a client's voice, I picked up the phone to hear the pleasant surprise of Jerry's warm and kindly tones. After chatting about things personal
and business, we got down to the matter at hand...what wood would I like for the reel seat on Sweetgrass production rod #1003, the first production
rod they'll be shipping next week. Jerry told me that they had close to 100 rods ready to go. He expressed some discomfort with all that inventory/money in
the shop. I offered to come and help him count all the money when the checks came rolling in, and he laughed.
I was so glad to hear that their trajectory is looking good, after quite some start-up time. Tight Lines! Alistair |

Sweetgrass Rod | #10 | ||
|
I am the proud owner of the first one they ever shipped--to IN of all places--7'9", 2 piece for a 4/5, down lock seat with wood spacer I picked out
last summer(we live in MT during the summer)-- beautiful rod !!!! Don't have pix capability. Sorry....

different. You chose a great rod. I love that rod! Congrats!

Vandy - Is the rod in hex or quad configuration?

It's 6 pieces of lovely cane. I've actually never owned anything but--i.e. no quads or pentas-- but have discussed then from time to time with Jerry.
Just too much of an eastern traditionalist !!! It's a nice rod-- crisp but with enough "softness" to easily handle both line weights--have cast
it with several lines--from sylks( DTs) to the classic peach--in weight forwards and double tapers.

It's arrived! | #15 | ||

I'm writing this in The Driftless Cafe in Viroqua, and am about to don my waders and see if the trout rise as freely today as they did yesterday afternoon.
My beautiful young wife called me from our home yesterday evening to inform me that rod #1003 has arrived from Sweetgrass! I'm off to the stream for the balance of the day, and will be unpacking it late tonight. Tight Lines! Alistair |

Sweetgrass #1003 7ft 9in 2/2 4/5wt - EXACTLY as expected | #16
|
They've nailed it! As expected, the action feels medium, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to cast it and figure out its nuances. It feels (to
the waggle test) just like it should - a longer and slightly stronger version of my Winston 7ft 4wt 2/2.

Alistair,
Congrats and please post some pics I would love to see it. The ferrules are NS. If I was venture a guess they wanted to make their rods different than Winston the and went to NS notwithstanding the reel seat hardware which I think is very classy looking. What kind of wood reel insert did you get? A 2/2? Dennis |

Thanks Dennis, and date correction | #19
|
Dennis,
thanks for posting the pics. The mugshot was erroneously dated when I sent it to you, it is from April 2006. This year's opener was very very snowy. Initial casting tests have me leaning towards a Rio classic WF5F as the preferred line at regular fishing distances. I've been asked about the grip and reelseat lengths. They are 6 & 3/8" and 3 & 5/8" respectively. Tight Lines! Alistair

New Sweetgrass rod | #20 | ||
![]() ![]() Hi Guys Here are some pictures of my hex 7'9" 4/5 two
piece. Love the rod. Would describe the taper as medium fast and really sings with a Cortland Sylk DT-5. Took my first little fish picture with the digital.
This a a small native brown from Spring Creek in Caledonia NY. Really did not like the picture taking process with the trout because I had to revive it and
that should never happen on Spring Brook. The fish come from good stock and are very strong. Love the rod. Bob
