BDC;
In checking out PHY's rod descriptions 2 jumped out at me... the Driggs and the Para 15. I settled on the Para 15 and moved forward. My major concern
was that the "proof of the pudding" was in casting the rod, and since you have to deal on these rods long distance you don't have the opportunity
to cast ahead of time. That can be a real problem when there are known variations within models... the Para 15 has a couple variations within Paul Young's
manufacture, but nothing like the variations with say... the Perfectionist line.

Thanks creaky!
Nice and easy parabolic action. A real pleasure to cast. Fit and finish is to my eye first-rate. Will baptize it next weekend. Bob |

An original VG/mint specimen is way out of my league prise-wise, so this weekend I've pulled the trigger on a restored Hardy Hollokona 'The
Phantom' 5wt for a lot less. I simply couldn't resist the possibility of owning and fishing (!) a classic Hardy rod. Especially a Phantom, after seeing
it being featured in the 'The Lost World Of Mr. Hardy' DVD. Should be here later this week, I'm very happy!
edit: it's here!

new jim downes rod | #890 | ||

Here are some pictures of a 7'6" Jim Downes rod I just received. It has an interesting background. I wanted a version of a Perfectionist taper,
and since George Maurer was Jim's mentorand hisYoung Philosopher is such a rod, I asked Jim if he could make me something like it. He sent me a rod to
try, and I asked for one with a little fuller flex. He was visiting George that weekend and they discussed the rod, and Jim settled on a taper without a
swelled butt. Maurer died just after that, and we thought it would be a nice tribute to name the rod after him. Jim came up with "George's Pine
Creek," after the stream by Maurer's house in Pennsylvania. The rod looks and feels great, and it's nice to be part of this homage. Jim just
opened a website by the way--www.ljdownesrodcompany.com.

Nohackle--
Just holding a ruler next to it, it looks to be about 9/32." But I don't have calipers and am not sure how to measure it anyway. I let Jim Downes know I was posting the photos, and I'm sure if you email him through his website (ljdownesrodcompany.com), he can tell you exactly. |

That Hardy rod really touches something in me. May I ask where you got it? Bob Those old fishermen: They're slow-moving and crabby and some of them talk to themselves, but they can catch trout.

Marc,
That Jennings is a real beauty, congratulations! I especially love the reel seat spacer. What type of wood is that? It matches the cane and wraps perfectly. Bill O. www.oysterbamboo.com |

Bill,
Thanks for the endorsement. The wood is olivewood and does match the wraps ver nicely. I must say the pictures don't do justice to the rod. The action is Garrison 209E-esque. Throws a DT4 Sylk or DT5 Wonderline very easily. Still trying to decide which it throws best. By the way your rods are also among the finest looking pieces of work in the business, although I have not had the priveledge of seeing one in person. Marc |

You won't be disappointed in the Schroeder rod. I have a 7' quad 4wt that casts as good as it looks. And it is 10 years old. I suspect his work is
even better today. I have never seen a Chris Carlin rod, but I hear his work is also quite nice.
