Contact info for D.L. Robichaud |

I have called a number of D.L. Robichauds in NH and left messages. So far no response. I thought there might be a chance here of someone knowing his contact
info.

I just want to ask him a simple question: In an anti reverse reel with a removable back, does the spool come out the front or the back. I have tried both and
the spool does not fall out as it does with the non anti reverse reel. I don't want to start forcing anything. Does anyone else know?

This is just a thought, Alex. I know that when I pulled some of my Robichauds apart the first time, I had to wiggle the spool a little bit to get it loose. It
seems that the spool spindle contact wasn't lubricated and friction was the source of the problem. Finger pressure (only) eventually worked.
I'd love to see your reel. Maybe if you post some pictures of it (assembled front and back, and disassembled as far you feel safe) we can put our heads together and offer some suggestions short of an anvil and hammer. |

Not since Summer/Fall 1997. I'm not sure when they actually started up, but the production years were relatively short...early 1995-mid '97, IIRC.

Will disassemble the reel, take pictures, and post them this coming weekend.

This is my 3rd look (before and after coffee) and I can't think of why the spool wouldn't lift off the face plate part of the compound spindle. If it
moves freely against the tension spring as you describe, it ought to unless it wasn't meant to. I'll be nterested in other folks thoughts.
If nothing else, you have a very nice reel and can take it apart to the extent needed for servicing, if not swapping out spools for line changing. |

I just want to mention that the reel came with an extra spool so obviously the &*^#@! thing is supposed to come off. Aaaaarf!!!

Alex -
I've never owned a Robi reel, but the set up looks the same as that of a single action Bogdan Salmon reel, and/or the trout & steelhead models. I will post some pics shortly, but the remove from the winding plate on those you need to remove the handle screw and handle which is set on a square shaft end. I don't know what this will do with the portion of the shaft that appears to be with the spool though.......maybe a stupid question, but am I correct in assuming that you extra spool does NOT have any portion of the spindle as part of it? Here are some pics I had already taken and had on file of a single action salmon reel....I realize that the spindle set-up is different, but I still wonder
if by taking the handle off you'll be able to remove the spool with the spindle and then see what is holding things up?

~L~ OK, try this if no one else offers something better. As you know Dave recommened against taking the handles off his reels. Being the nosey guy I am, I did
it anyway after talking to Dave. Just use the right sized screw driver, a firm grip, and the usual care one applies to such projects. The handle screw will
seem reluctant to come free because it's laid in with Loctite 271 Threadlocker, but I promise you will come free with some hand pressure. Once you get the
handle off maybe you can pull the spool and face plate portion of the spindle free to see what's up.
When you reassemble the reel make sure the parts are clean and use the 271 to keep the screw in place. And take pictures. We want pictures.

I am back, as just a few minutes ago I was able to take that &^%#@ spool off without removing the handle. It turns out that it was just a very tight fit on
the shaft, and a drop of hot sauce oil on the shaft together with some significant finger pressure did the trick. The two spools interchange beautifully. Not
too bad-- after all I have only owned the reel for a couple of years or so, DAHH!!!
