My newest child, about the nicest flamed Orvis I've seen. I had tried it at a FF show and really liked it but took a while to decide to get it. I sent
the guy payment and when I received the item noticed it was the right model but the wrong rod. Seems he had two of them.

This just arrived today. I took it to the pond near me and did some casting. What a powerhouse! I was tossing nearly a whole spool of Triangle Taper 5 line
with accuracy. The rod will be used this summer for Presque Isle (Pa.) Smallmouth and my yearly Montana trip. It may even get the nod for light Steelheading as
it will easily handle a WF6 line.

Here is a rod I didn't know I was buying until It was handed to me. Sometimes life will take you by surprise.
The first flat reads James Campon
The second flat reads Dartmouth # 41 wraped in green and white which are the school colors, nice touch.

Heddy #14 | #926 | ||

Just bought one from Germanbrown, a 1920-1930 Heddon #14. Truly stoked about it as it has some nice mojo from a trip on the Yampa. Handled big fish with eas
and was a joy to cast.
She's already on the bench getting a makeover before the next outing. |

The Jordan, Schroeder and Edwards rods are all gorgeous rods. I have fondness for all three, and all three, in certain waters, would be a great rod to have in
hand. Congrats to each of you on your new rods! Fisheye, would love to see some pics of the Heddon. Don't know much about the #14 model, but I have a #60
from that period of time, inked as B Hills personal rod, and I have to think that those years at Heddon were some of the best. Ric

Paul H. Young Dry Fly Special "Featherweight" | #928
|
Here goes my first post of "Got a new rod lately". I actually acquired this beauty from Hoagy Carmichael a few months back but just now getting time to share some pictures. She is a Paul H. Young Dry Fly Special "Featherweight" made around 1940, excellent+ cond. 8'0", 2/2, 3 5/8 oz. Smoothly flammed cane. Deluxe Delacate brown open spiral wraps throughout (typical of "Special" grade rods). Mortised cork, Garrison /Ritz style reel seat with nickel silver butt cap and ring. This rod is special in that it has the original hang tag on the original rod sack, very rare. As you can see in the pics nicely signed by Paul H. Young himself. The 1940 Paul H. Young catalog states: "Paul H. Young's Dry Fly Special "Featherweight" Special for the expert and tackle "crank." This all around eastern dry fly rod comes in two sizes-7 1/2 feet, weighing 3 1/2 ounces, and 8 feet, weighing 3 7/8 ounces. It has all the power you could ask for and can be used day after day without becoming tiresome. Has cork reel seat. requires an H.E.H line and performs perfectly at distances up to 50 ft. I have used one of these rods for 8 years for a good half of my fishing, and guarantee it can't be beaten by any rod of its weight on the market....." Paul H. Young I have yet to fish this beauty, in fact I cant wait to try her out on my favorite river this Summer. Enjoy

Ids Schukken 6' 2/1 2-3wt
(FlyFair 2008 last Saturday) A beautiful rod, and it casts like a dream. Best ultralight bamboo rod I've ever seen or tried. Did cast it for about five minutes on the lawn, and I knew I wouldn't be able to let it go, I just had to have it. Wilfred de Bruijn

Marty,
Are you sure that grip isn't too small for those fists of fury of yours? I've seen more cork in wine bottles.

2 New! My first ordered rods from a modern maker. Mike Brooks has made me a 7'6" 2/2 Payne 100 with simple dark wraps and blackened hardware as well
as a 7' 2/2 Leonard Catskill Fairy 2 wgt with bronze snakes, bright hardware and olive wraps. Plus he put full intermediates on the sweet little thing!
I'm leaving for Pennsylvania in an hour to put both through their paces on classic waters. Plan to take photos of them in their natural habitat and post
'em here upon my return in 10 days.
Thanks, again, Mike!! Ken A Curmudgeon is just an Old Fart with outlet malfunction. You'd be grumpy, too. |

Today I received my new 7625 from John. This is my second Pickard rod, the first being a Pickard 8026 Guide. John's rods are flawless... I could not be
more pleased with the workmanship!

Norling 8' 5 weight, Carp on a fly | #937
|
Susan's 8' 5 weight from Dave Norling was delivered to her on the banks of a western Wisconsin spring creek by none other than Mr. Norling himself. The
first picture shows Mr. Norling with a nice carp caught by Susan while nymphing. Even Jimmy Houston wouldn't kiss that fish!! The other two show Susan
fighting and landing her first fish with the new rod.

Yesterday, while picking up my drift boat in Idaho Falls I met a guy who advertised it on Craig's list and consumated the purchase of this excellent+
Winston 8' 2/1 4wt. 3 5/8 oz. built by Merrick&Howells . It has sweet medium fast action and shows little use. A faster action than the norm Winston
medium action of that era. I might test a 3DT to see if it works.

Bill Taylor Rod | #940 | ||
|
Recently picked up this rod from Bill Taylor. The rod and case are among the most unique that I have. The rod is an 8' 3 wt hollowbuilt with light olive
wraps and red and black tipping. Along with Bill I christened it on the Breeches. I'm still having fun determining what line I like best with it.
