I posted a couple weeks ago asking how to make ferrule plugs and got many great suggestions. Harry B. was gracious to send me several cork
"sleeves". However, it turned out I needed a different size so I cut my own using a drill press and sharpened brass tubing for both the inner hole
and the outer cut. I held the cork ring in place by tacking it to a slab of 3/8" balsa wood with hi-visc. Zap and accelerator and C-clamping the balsa
board to my drill press table. I chose the balsa so the sharpened brass tubing wouldn't be dulled when exiting the cork. The cork sleeves turned out
perfectly centered and smooth every time. I constructed the tops of the plugs out of sterling silver and silver soldered a brass rod on the bottom to hold the
cork. The plug on the left is a bezel set montana agate cab and one on the right is petrified palm wood inlaid into a constructed silver "cup" then
ground and polished in place. Kind of labor intensive for non-essential parts, but they turned out nice and it was a fun project. Thanks again for all the
pointers!
