So many patterns available. Straight, right or left hand spiral, male or female diamond or my personal favorite, rope. Do you change knurl depending on the
grade of the rod? Thanks in advance for any comments.

I like the rope knurl myself. I find it tough to line up and match perfectly into itself all the way around. Any tips on achieving this?

Rope knurl | #3 | ||

My rope knurl is very small. 1/8" stem holding the wheel. I use a Jet 9X20 with 1/2" quick change tooling. I milled a slot in a 1/2" blank to
support the knurl all the way to the wheel. Working with all the diameters we have can be a problem. I hand crank the lathe head to no more than a 360 degree
circle then back to the starting point. Back and forth several times. At least there is only one small spot where the rope is not clear and distinct. If you
just turn the power on it can be a real mess.
