My current list of rods | #283
|
Guys, here is my current list of rods. I hope no one takes offense at the number. Some are definitely fishing rods, and some are for collecting, and some
maybe both as I find it easier to fish even the most collectable rods when they have already seen water and fish. I don't have any rods that I have sold
or traded that I wish I hadn't. My favorite rods to fish right now are the Sweetgrass penta, the Edwards 42, the Reams, the new Divine Fairy, Carpenter
and a Bradford rods in the 2/2 7'6" configuration, and the Schroeder quad. Rods nearing completion for me, which will likely be added to the list of
favorites to fish, are a Harms quad, a Gnonish works 7'9" based, I believe, on a Hallstead taper, and a 7'9" Sweetgrass. Rods that I know
would fish well, if I could stand the risk of wading into the water with one and breaking it, are the Brandin, Gillum and Garrison. Ric

Hey Rick,
Four rods you're missing are a Summers, Granger(Registered), Howells and Montagne. I'm sure I missed a few others but you're well on your way of having just about everything. Great collection!!! Dennis |

Bellinger/Santiam 7 1/2' 4 weight, Eden Cane 7'9" 4 weight, Tom Nigro 7' 5 weight, Don Schroeder 8 1/2' 5 weight, Dave Norling 8' 5
weight. The first and the last on the list belong to my wife. We fish all of them. The Schroeder has not been fished yet. It is a little too much rod for the
local streams. It will shine on the Madison this fall.

Firehole and Mosquito, thanks for the kind compliments about my collection of bamboo. I have my sights set for a nice Hallstead one day. I am also on the order
list for a rod from Wojnicki, one from Spittler, two from Bob Summers (although that could still be a while), two from Dana Gray, a Hidy, as well as a few
others. A Kagerow or a Carmichael would also be nice. I am sure in time I will have a few of the 'missing links' in my collection. Again, thanks for
the nice words. Ric

My Monty Collection... Updated | #295
|
My entire collection is probably worth less than 1 or 2 of the rods in some of the prestigious collections owned by others in this forum. I love a mystery, so it's been a lot of fun finding and cataloging so many undocumented rods. My wife inherited a Montague Rapidan that was handed down from her grandfather, to her father, then to her. I decided to buy one to match it, so I picked up a Rapidan on eBay for close to nothing, and began fishing with it. It was a bit clunky, but fishable. I've worked my way up the Monty line into the Fishkills, Redwings and Manitous, and enjoy fishing with them. I found that I enjoyed researching and collecting as well, so my addiction has taken on a new dimension. To date, I've cataloged 191 Montague named/numbered production bamboo fly rod models (not including various rod lengths or trade rods). I plan to publish my research (some day), so I'm always looking for more unknown rods, and searching for information on the ones I've cataloged. If you have a rod (or know of one) that does not show up on the list below, I would love to know about it!! Here's a list (updates since my last posting in red) of my Montague rods so far. I listed them in order of what I believe to be their original retail prices. Manitou 9'6" Manitou 9' Redwing Game Cock 8'6" Red Wing 10' Red Wing Medium

I've finally determined who sold this popular trade rod. Wanting to own Any Monty not in the list above! If you like
collecting Montys, or want help with identifying a rod, drop me a line, and we'll swap stories, rods and research.
