Favorite Rod?? |
Lead | ||
|
Fished my Dave Collyer 7'6" Hollow Trouter tonight on ___ ____ Creek near Lake Tahoe. I hadn't fished it yet this year but with the snow melting
and stumbling on a good creek near home with some long slow runs, endless bends with cut banks I needed a rod to do it all. We all have out favorite rods,
and ever since I got this rod a few years ago, it has always been mine. I have a bunch of rods from a variety of makers, both classic and modern, but
Dave's just stand out as my favorite. This is no offense to any other maker, and I denfinetly haven't cast rods from all of them; but it's just
that Dave's rods just suit my personality and casting style. This particular rod's got enough length to skim a dry to tease trout out of the cuts, it
pick up line and roll cast with ease, when I need to fish tight bends I can make short five foot casts at finicky fish and most importantly when there is a
nice slow straightaway, the rod can accuratly rocket line a county mile. While it's great to have a rod that just can fish anywhere, I especially like the
ones that can also put some distance between you and the fly....even when your not casting to fish. Anyway, my buddy was fishing a few hundred yards ahead of
me so no pics today, but I did manage a few nice cutthroats and a few pretty brookies. Lost a couple at dark that I swear were monsters, but in the dark they
all seem big. I'm gonna head up to fish this new little creek once more tommorrow on my way to Yosemite so I'll be sure to post pics of my fish....
with my Collyer.

This is my pick for a trout rod. 8'-0" Payne 201 by Mike Brooks 3/2 # 5/6 line. This rod allows me to fish and do all the cast without thinking about
it. It is a great fit for me and my style of fishing. It's a smooth caster and the fly goes where its aimed. The rod reacts to me as if intuitively knowing
what I want. I require a rod that will roll cast with ease and this rod dose the job. It will also throw a nice curve. If I could have only one rod to fish
this is it. It's a great length and will take a WF6F line which I like on the bigger water. Its a medium speed with a parabolic action. I still haven't
fished a lot of rods yet, I suspect I would like, but as of today this is my pick

For sentlemental reasons, it would have to be my Walton Powell hollowbuilt 8'4" 7 wt.
I've fished this rods since the mid-seventies. It been to Alaska twice and to Alberta and to British Columbia and all over the Western United States. It's not as cosmetically beautiful as some of my rods, but it's a great rod and it's a lot better looking than I. I guess I'm just an old sentimental fool, which IMHO is a nice thing to be.

tough one as I have lots of favourites of course.
If it had to be only one it'd be my Bjarne Fries 7,5ft #4 Katana. Can do everything a Perfectionist can but is more sensitive and even lighter in weight (wouldnt cast a 5 weight as well as the original Perfectionist I have tried so is a true 4 weight). For the fishing I do and for its unique understated appearance and taper my No.1 rod. glass rods: Vince Cummings Superlite 8ft #4/5 |

I caught my first trout on my Granger 8642 on Sunday. This thing is a cannon with a fresh new wf 6. I have had the rod for a while but have never used it.
By the way that was the second cast on the South Holston River in East Tennessee.

8' Philipson Pacemaker, I didn't realize what a light caster or how delicate the tip was until I got back from fishing the salt with a big stick. Next
time I fish my 8' watchyamacallit rod I got off this board (very granger like) then that will be my favorite again

Favorite Rod = Granger 8040
The trout takes the fly, the line tightens and it's like I was blind, but now I
see.
