I am considering having Dennis Stone build me a Granger 8040 4/5 wt. 3 piece hollowbuilt rod. If you fish one or have cast one, please tell me your thoughts.
This rod would be used in the NC mountains along with my 6' 6" 3 wt. Olaf Kundrus.

I have not cast that particular fly rod, but I had Dennis build me a blank based on a Phillipson 8' 3/2 5wt. It has been my go to fly rod this season.
Dennis builds a very nice fly rod.

I don't know the rod either but Dennis built me a 7'9" 4/2 5 wt. F.E. Thomas/Whitehead taper that's a casting machine. The taper you chose is
one of very best and Dennis is a outstanding craftsman.

I have this exact rod from Mr. Stone, I believe it's hollow from mid down. It too is my go to rod, just fun to cast. It's used to catch tailwater trout
with double midge set up as well as huge drake hatches in the White Mountains N.H. which should be happening right now. (Just to give you the range of this
rod) Anyhow, I use it with a 5wf. Never even thought about putting 4wt line but now you've mentioned it, I think I'll try it out. If you wish, I can
take some pics and sent them to you.
