Next Rod? |

To those of us who are relatively new to cane and still working on building up a stash, what are your plans for the future? I have a Chris Carlin 8'3"
5 weight due in the fall. After that, I plan on contacting Don Schroeder about a 4 or 5 weight quad. I don't get the chance to fish for steelhead often, so
I'd rather concentrate on trout and smallmouth bass. I'll have just about every trout and smallmouth bass situation covered.

My plans are simple. I'll be fishing my Granger 8642 for everything.
Yes, I can play golf with one club. |

I should receive my 10' 6" 3/2 8 wt hollowbuilt steelhead/salmon rod this summer. I also have a couple Dave Kenney rods that should be ready soon -
8' 3/2 5wt semi-para and an 8' 2/2 7/8 wt for bass and carp.

I just placed an order with Dennis Stone this week. 8' 3/2 4/5wt Granger 8040 hollowbuilt. I think this will make a nice pairing with my 6'6" Olaf
Kundrus 3wt. I fished the Kundrus every day for a week in the NC mountains and it is a perfect small stream rod.

The two rods I have seen from Dennis Stone have been excellent in both taper and workmanship and were true bargains.
Glad to hear you are also fishing your little Kundrus in good form. I just received yesterday a Kundrus 7' 4 wt 2/2 quad that is quite nice - smooth and delicate and the finish and hardware are VERY nice. Serrated ferrules and figured spacer - beautiful work. |

Hey creakycane, let me know how you like it when you get to fish it. I caught a 16" brown on my 3wt. and it was like playing a whale. What a hoot!

Creakycane,
If that was the one on Ebay it was one fine looking rod. Please let me know what type of action it has. Olaf's rods really intrique me especially the quads. On order and should receive within the next 10 months or so is a Spittler Hollowbuilt Quad 8' 3/2 6 wt. and 18-24 months out will be my second Sweetgrass rod a Penta this time 7'9" 3/2 5/6wt. If I'm really lucky I might receive a rod I've been wanting for years within the next couple of weeks or so. Dennis |

I'm not sure which rod will be next as I am close to receiving rods from two different makers. More than likely, It will be a 7'6" 3/2 rod for a
4wt line by Chris McDowell. The other is an 8'2" 3/2 MacKenzie NW-H for a 6wt line by Mike Brooks. I had hoped to take those along with my 8' 3/2
FE Thomas taper (4/5wt) by Chris Carlin to my annual two weeks in Montana/Idaho/Wyoming to give them all a real workout and determine what might be my next rod
but it appears neither will be done in time. Hopefull, all this water will mean a long season and I'll be able to get the new rods out some before
bird-hunting season rolls around.

I am waiting for a Homer Jennings 7'6" 5 weight maybe due July / August. His grip shape soothes my aching hand, and lets the base of my hand easily
slide down onto the reelseat which I prefer. Looking forward to it. Buying from Homer has been very pleasant.

Been kicking around numbers for an 8' light line rod for fishing a fifty foot wide tail water that holds mainly browns that average 9". The goal is a
3/4wt that flexes into the lower third of the rod so these little fellers can show some attitude yet still handle the occasion 18 to 20 inch rainbow that shows
up from time to time. Fish alot of small caddis and midges and the big flies are sulfurs and ants. The butt and tip are roughed out. Tempering will take place
later this fall. In the mean time I am looking for the lightest size 13 ferrule I can find for it's heart and soul. Tim
OOOPPS! Looks like I was the high bidder on auction site not to be mentioned. Have a couple month old Stephen Kiley 664D coming my way! Hadn't gotten around to making one and for the price would of been hard press to make one. Of course it has all the earmarks of a Kiley rod! Can't wait to fish it!
