Maybe A. H. Wood ??
An A H E Wood designed Salmon rods for Hardy in the 1920-50's period and some carry his name as a model reference - not sure if it is the same Wood but may well be, that is about the limit of help I can offer. but on the other hand Bob Summers had this rod listed a while ago ; 672. Constable 6' 9" R H Woods model 2-piece, 1 tip bag and tube. It is built on the staggered ferrule design. There is a aluminum extension to make the butt section the same length as the tip when in the carrying tube. I have lawn cast the rod. It does a real nice job with a WF 5. The rod was made in England mid 1970's. I do not think it has ever been fished. $375.00

I own a companion rod in both a 6' 3wt and 6'9'' 4wt and absolutly love it's parabolic action. For the money, one of the best deals out there. You don't see them that often. |

I have the wallop brook model in 7'6" for a 4-5. I bought it while in the UK 20 years ago for 20 pounds sterling or less than $40... I love it and
get it out at least once a year....
It is a prarbolic action and does a good job over 20 feet... I use a weight foward - Wulff TT4/5 and it tends to work the rod well Gregg |

The RH Woods series by Clifford Constable were made for the US market and sold by Anglers Mail.
R.H. Woods was the name of the attorney retained by one of the owners of Anglers Mail. Cliff Constable liked the name and put it on the US series of rods. I am not certain but RH Woods may have been retained to put together the deal between Anglers Mail and Clifford Constable The R.H. Woods series tapers are similar if not identical to the Wallop Brook series sold through Dermot Wilson's, Nether Wallop Mill. Although I own one or more of each of the Wallop Brook series I have never been able to cast the RH Woods and the Wallop Brook side by side. There are some cosmetic differences, mostly thread colors and the presence or absence of intermediate wraps. The Wallop Brook series are all staggered ferrule design and generally regarded as parabolic or semi parabolic Dermot Wilson's Nether Wallop Mill catalog from 1980 lists the first Wallop Brook rod made in 1970 at 6'9", 2 3/4oz., #4. This was followed by the 7'6" 3 7/8oz. #5, the 8'2" 4 1/2oz. #6 and lastly the 6'6" "Midge" 2 1/8oz #3 Constable also made non staggered ferrule rods. The 8' Empress, the 5'9" Dart and a couple of different versions of the Dual which came with two butt sections of differing lengths and strengths. And last but not least the elusive Brokenstraw, a 7'3" 3pc rod named after a stream in western Pennsylvania and made for Anglers mail. I have heard that only 50 of these were made and thus very hard to find. Of these I have one or more of the following 5'9" Dart 6'9" Wallop Brook 7'6" Wallop Brook 8' Empress The RH and WB series may or may not have been tailored to the US and UK respectively but I can not attest to that either way as I have not had the opportunity to cast then side by side. I have yet to cast a Constable rod that I did not like. I also like the 7'6" with a #5 wt forward line. TC

Thanks fellas (especially TC). That really is fantastic information.
I already have a 7'6" Constable Wallop Brook, but have the chance to buy the RH Woods. I bought my original rod at auction and it was refurbished by Edward Barder who had bought all Cliff Constable's stock of parts from his widow when he died. Like you guys I find it a deceptiveley powerful little rod. regards Phil |

Some further bits of information from the 1975 Anglers Mail Catalogue.
The R.H.Woods 6'9" and the 7'6" came in both standard and Classic versions. The Classic had intermediate windings. The standard did not. That is the only difference noted. The 6'9" standard sold for $88.50 the Classic was $105.00 The 7'6" standard and classic were the same price as the 6'9" The photos in the catalogue show cigar shaped handles and cork seats on all Constable rods from Anglers Mail whereas the Wallop Brook rods from Nether Wallop Mill have small full wells handles and cork seats. Phil Please let us know if there is a noticeable difference in action when comparing the R.H.Woods to the Wallop Brook. TC |

In the late 1970's I purchased a 7'0" Constable "Firefly" from Angler's Mail. It was a non-staggered two-piece, one tip rod, also
ostensibly built for the American market. Wrapped solid black over straw-colored cane with no intermediate wraps, it had blackened bronze ferrules, an uplock
reel seat over a black filler and a reversed half-Wells grip. A nice looking combination.
But I could never find the right line for that little rod and ended up trading it off as I have with every British rod I've owned. Since I am now enamoured with parabolic rods, maybe I ought to give them another try. Regards, Flyman

I found with my Wallop Brook 7' 6" that the rod seems to work far better with a WF5 than my usual DT5. The rod feels underloaded with the double
taper.
Once again thanks everbody for the information. Phil |

Flyman615 wrote: Not all of Constables rods were parabolic or semi parabolic tapers. As far a I can tell the only paraboic type are the staggered ferrule 6'9",
7'6", 8'2" and the Dual 6' and/or 6'9" made possible by interchangeable butt sections. The rest are various iterations of
progresive tapers.
