I'd recommend checking with a local fly shop or guide before venturing out.

It'll be awhile before the streams here are fishable because of the flooding. Most streams are back in their banks now, but still running high and dirty.
I'd recommend checking with a local fly shop or guide before venturing out. gofish |

Take a look at this link: ( http://www.westforksportsmansclub.org/floods_08.html). If you
tab down 4 rows and go over 3 pics to the right, where all the debris is now, is where my tent usually is !
Cheers and Safe Fishing Bob PS - Ed - Hope things are drying out for you ! Best ! |

It's kind of a mess Ralph, but in the big scheme of things, pretty minimal compared to what a lot of our friends suffered, not to mention whole cities in
Iowa and Illinois.
All of the drywall, carpet and insulation (two dumpsters full) are out of the flooded part, the well is chlorinated and safe, the hot water heater and furnace work, and so now we wait a couple of months to dry out well before starting to repair it. gofish |

A lot of people have lost a good deal of their personal possesions as a result of the flooding here. WI Gov.Doyle has designated the Driftless a disaster
area. Unless you want to help with the rebuilding and cleanup you should stay out of the area.

Amen!! Not going to be a place to play for quite awhile. We had idiots in pontoon boats parading by, making wakes, gawking at us while we were trying to pull stuff out and save it. I was not in a good mood, and there may be a few people who think I'm a real jerk for yelling at them. Actually, I was really hoping they'd ruin a prop by hitting one of the submerged docks, boat lifts, etc that had been swept out into the lake and sunk. gofish |

Ed,
I was greatly saddened by the flooding. The area didn't need another hit. I hope all goes well with your personal situation. Tight Lines! Alistair |

My sympathy to all affected. It's one of my favorite places and to see it get plastered again is tragic. Drew

As you know from yesterday's phone conversation, I drove up to Cheese Country and to the BEC yesterday. After a late wake-up (the cool night air felt SOOOOO good); a stop at the donut shop for the "usual"; and then a delay along to way to pull a young fellow (age - approx. 38) off the road to discuss his MGB (a 1976+ model) as compared to my MGB (a 1968); I finally got to the stream late morning (around 1100 hrs - for us old military types). To me, it seemed like the water level was approx. 6" to 8" higher than normal but it was pretty dirty ... .couldn't see bottom if the water was 12"+ .......cold and running VERY fast / swift. There were some places that I usually wade in that I didn't want to risk this time, as I was alone and had promised my wife that I'd be careful (I have it too good at home to mess it up !). During 6 hours of fishing, I saw only one riser and I don't know if it "really" rose or whether I (or something else) scared it, as it jumped in the air no more than 3 feet in front of me. Tried all my usual dries, nymphs and soft hackles and didn't get a single hit in three different locations until I switched to a fly with a wire wrapped, Pheasant tail body, BH thorax and Partridge soft hackle. In the last half hour of casting, finally caught a Striped Dace and a Spotted Dace before heading back to Flatlander Country. Will, hopefully, try it again someday next week. Best Bob PS - Saw this a few minutes ago ( http://www.driftlessangler.com/fish_report.php )

I was out from Wed\Sat and every stream I encountered was still high and very cloudy at best. We managed to remain high enough, but the yard and outbuilding took a bit of a hit. The Poo' is un-fishable, as are 99% of the main branches. The headwaters are a little better but the fish are still working their way back. On a positive note, snakes are at an all time high! I can't believe how many HUGE water snakes we encountered. Just beautiful!
The locals have little money and much to clean up so maybe offer to lend a hand if the situation presents itself.
