7' 2/2 4wt - bought this a few years ago - fished a few times and was lawn casting yesterday. what a great tight loop fly rod - medium to medium fast.
beautifully flamed with golden nodes. mid 90's vintage. Has DK retired from rod making or is he back at it again?

Dave hasn't built rods since the 1990s. He's currently an editor for one of the fly fishing magazines--IIRC, American Angler.
I've owned this 1988-vintage 7-foot, 4-wt, 2/2 since 1993:
It's one of the best rods I've cast. |

Hello Everyone,
Just to let everyone know what Dave's rod building status is, he decided to stop building a while ago to free up his time for other things. I bought all of Dave's rod building equipment and culms from him last December. After 25 years of restoring rods, I wanted to give building a try and I knew Dave was not building anymore and he was gracious enough to give me a great deal on his stuff. I met Dave when I used to produce all of the prepress work for Abenaki Publishers. I'm retiring from my prepress business after 40 years and hope to start building this fall. I'm hoping his magic is still in his equipment and will eventually rub off on me he is a hell of a rod maker. Jim |

That is a very pretty 7'4wt. It is funny that someone so talented can stop buiding totally. It would seem like rodmaking would be something that gets in
the blood; once a maker-always a maker, even if it is one rod per year. I understand Mark Ruhe did the same thing, 2 talented and well respected makers. Dave
has a lot going on with the magazine and I believe mark has family demands . A Klausmeyer looks like a great rod at a great price as is a Ruhe.

No--it's a down-locking NS cap & ring over morticed teak. I believe it was made by Struble. He seemed to have favored it for his light rods.
