A while back, I bought a J.H. McGinn bamboo fly rod on eBay, primarily because I thought it looked good and seemed well made. During that time in my life, I
wasn't very picky about what I bought; in retrospect I was definitely going for quantity at the expense of quality. Anyway, has anyone heard of a maker
or company named J.H. McGinn? Might be from Australia as that is where the rod was shipped from. Thanks in advance.

Found this little tidbit of info John.
Maybe some of our members in the UK could offer some more in-depth info.

Thanks, Bob. Mine is a "Classical", 8.5' 2/1 5-6 wt. Only blemish is that someone felt the need to use pliers on the ferrule.

Hi John,
John McGinn made rods in Australia in the 1970's and 1980's. I tried to track him down a few years ago and was told he moved to the USA in the late 1980's. I have a very good magazine article about him from that era which I can scan and send to you if you let me know a email adress. His rods are still sort after by Australian cane rod users. Also I think it may be his son who makes game fishing rods that sell for extraordinary prices. cheers Ian K |
