I thought some folks on this forum might enjoy this little tale of 2 reelnut makers.....Ebarrel and RM have been trying to get together to meet and share notes
for about a year.....This board brought us together in cyberspace a good while ago (thanks Banjo)....Well,, we finally made it work and spent the better part
of a day in my shop with endless reel talk and hundreds of questions about materials, techniques, collets, tooling and most of all our own histories and
beginnings in a shared passion for flyreels........Jon knows more about the history and making of EVH type reels than anyone I have ever met....He is in the
early years of making and I am coming to the end of mine....his work is superb and his reels speak for themselves.......the Boo makers seem to get together all
the time but I have never heard of reelmakers doing same....maybe next year there might be a few others interested in a bit of shop talk....who knows?

Boy would I have liked to be an observant fly on the wall during your visit...... I would have been just like a kid in a candy store |

I too wish I had the opportunity to have been there for that meeting.
If a reel makers gathering is organized in the next year you can surely count me in! Those are some beautiful reels there as well. Mark Shamburg |

Yikes - great idea. I agree... what it would have been like to be there.
Just throwing this out - Arkansas has the Conclave every fall. Might be far to travel for some.. but I know plenty of people who would have thought that from the beginning of the Conclave itself. (it is primarily a fly tiers paradise.. but with lots of boo boys gathered..) Also, I have been to the Denver show twice in the last 10 years.. but that might be $$. good looking ideas along with good looking stuff always brings people together - Brian

You know I'll be there. Love to play show and tell as well as share the "insanity" as Reelmaker put it. Maybe we can find a lodge somewhere and
'test' reels too. Not only does Reelmaker have 30+ years of experience making beautiful reels, but he has been fishing for Atlantic Salmon longer than
I have been alive! I feel I am a better reel builder than a fisherman, so I know I could learn more from all of you there too. All my lodge contacts are in
Maine, New Brunswick or Alaska. We have one vote for Denver, anyone else have some ideas where this could happen? Jon

I'll vote for Maine.
Alternatively we have a very nice picnic grove in the Peoples State Forest along the Farmington river here in Connecticut. Parking, shaded groves, picnic tables with fire pits, the river close enough to hear . . . Gary |

I'd go to Maine as long as there were some Atlantics I could fish for.

I am not a reel maker just a reel lover and I host the Colorado Cane Conclave every April at Sylvan Dale Ranch. What are your thoughts about adding a reel
makers get together to this bamboo gathering? Good fishing on the ranch this time of year too. Gary.

Richard, I guess none of the reel makers want to make the drive to Colorado but you sure would be welcome at the Conclave in April. Thanks, Gary.
