Hardy,s best drag system |
Lead | ||
|
We all know Hardy made many a fine drag system and I know it is all personal preference but we all have a favorite. I always liked the not much talked about
Husky as long as the disc was kept clean it worked very well. Anyone else got a favorite?

It's modern, but it's a classic in my book: the Angel.
From a technological point of view the best Hardy reel ever made. Wilfred de Bruijn

Whoa, what a reel. Thats one sweet reel. I cant comment on that one as I have never had the pleasure of using one. I am probably in a minority but a really
like the drag on the Husky as long as you keep them clean.......very smooth

Over the years I've seen a bunch of Hardy reels on the Forum, but never touched or used them.
Of the Hardys I own and have used I have to put In the top spot the Bougle's with the Perfect a close second. I must say the old CFO's are great to use and I do. |

I like Click/Pawls so my favorite are the Bougle MK IV's. My 4" handles anything a fresh chrome King can throw at it. As far as my disinterested
opinion of Hardys modern Drag reels, I would rate the Zane the best, with a vented Avacab system, followed by the Gem MK II with a similar system. These are
the only two true SW ready drags Hardy has made with a reel to compliment. The Angel Drag is has less surface and being "sealed" is far less
ventilated. OTOH the Angel is the finest Steelhead/Salmon reel (if you want a modern drag) ever made. It WILL NOT freeze, the tolerances are unbelievable and
the balance and smoothness is unquestioned. I'm saying this as a now disinterested party as Cortland will not be representing Hardy next season.

Number me among those who gaze affectionately upon the 1912 check ... however, it's the earliest CFOs, followed closely by those ('60s)
Lightweight-series gems that possess my favorite drag systems ... seasoned by the years, their spring and pawl setups are at once, sensitive enough to
protect 7 & 8x tippet, yet strong enough to prevent overspooling and in the words of one Bob Perry, they are pure butta (i.e., butter).
