hi,
that's a super trout rod, one of their best; the others I consider to be great beeing the 85 and 88 (these are, you might have guessed it, 8 foot 5 inches and 8 foot 8 inches). taperwise, think along the lines of pezon parabolic rods; not slow or soft. if the price is right, grab it. best from "krautland", christian |

It sounds like you've found a nice one. Enjoy it!
If I'm not mistaken Sharpe made all of the 6 to 8 foot rods designed by Lee Wulff for sale in the US by Norm Thompson in the mid to late 60's. They were impregnated with a formula similar to the one used by Orvis and were marked just past the winding check with "Designed by Lee Wullff for Norm Thompson, Armour Cane, Made by Farlows in Aberdeen, Scotland." I acquired a 2/2 7ft Midge version in '96, and although I have other bamboo rods with more noteworthy pedegrees I really love this rod and fish it often. I would call it medium slow. It was designed for a 6 wt Wulff TT and casts that line very nicely, but it also likes a line or two lighter. I wouldn't part with it. |

price depends. two tips or one? comes with original bag? a tube? if it has been hanging on a wall, you want to check if it's straight.

I guess i will state the obvious that "mint condition" does not include being fished only a couple of times. I am sure it is in nice condition but
don't let that "mint" word get you,, the rod has been fished. I have a couple of Scotties that i use for Atlantic Salmon and they are great rods
that i use alot.
Good luck with your purchase. Hardy Guy

I would think something over $1.95 and under $300 would put you in the ball park considering what most UK rods have been selling for......
Would you not agree Christian??? Ralph |

Good start!!! For that price you have done well, and the rod will easily cast as well as most US made rods costing much more than $200. But then, what do I
know??

Sharpes are slow action at least the two I have. The impregnation process slows most tapers. I feel they are a little tip heavy and the overall rod is a
little heavy in the hand. This is just my opinion.

Sharpes of Aberdeen is still around and you can still buy Sharpes cane rods but not from them. I picked up my first Sharpes blank in the early 80's.
My first bamboo fishing rod. It only had one tip so I e-mailed Sharpes to see if I could get another one made. About 1984 I think and they were selling off
their cane rod building divison. Had a few e-mail conversations with someone at Sharpes but never did get a second tip made. They sold their cane rod
building divison to a company in England. S & J Tackle Engineers http://www.sandjtackle.co.uk/bamboo-fly-rod.html lock, stock, and milling machines. I understand at
that time a few of their craftsman went along with the machinery. I don't know what they're like now but the Sharpes blanks I've built (all made
by Sharpes) were beautiful. Perfect flats, sharp edges, and no disapearing flats at the tip, and straight. Spoiled me. The first blank I ordered from a rod
maker here in the US ( a 7' 6" built on a Dickerson taper) I sent back, but thats another story.
