I hit my rod tips a few times and pucker each time..., and that's with dries. I try to be a little more cautious (open my loop) when fishing beadheads. I have a buddy who crushed a glass rod tip with a beadhead and has since refused to fish them.
YOMV, but I side with caution. R |

I would not be too worried about it, bamboo is much more durable to that type of impact than glass or graphite. Just inspect the rod for big dings and chips in the varnish. Fill in as needed, if rod is impregnated - it's pretty much bullet proof.

If my fly (nymph, dry or wet) doesn't hit my rod a few times each day, I'd probably think that I wasn't having a normal day. Then again, if my fly didn't hit me a few times each day, that would really be abnormal.
Haven't had any problems with any of my wood rods due to being hit with a few flies. Haven't fished the graphite ones for quite awhile, so can't comment on the effects that a "direct hit" would have on them. Personally, I'm more concerned about getting myself injured while fishing (hooked, slip / fall, bad back getting twisted, etc.) than I am with rod damage ... but then again, I've assembled quite a few "spare" rods, just in case they're needed, have only one bod. Cheers and Safe Fishing Bob PS - Did slam a car door on a cane tip. Made some of the neatest splinters that I've ever seen and a good source for a ferrule, tip top and a few line guides. |

Broke a graphite playing dueling anglers in a boat. Came to realize that there actually is a good reason to take turns fishing. Never broke a tip from bead wacks. Cars seem to have a special affinity for rods. There are dozens of ways to break them around cars. I tend to drop reels getting into cars as well. Tiny wooley buggers tied on mini jig hooks are pretty popular down this way but don't hear about breakage from them. Don

Have been tying/fishing beadheads for years. Been casting them with cane since 91. Have yet to ding a tip from beadhead or get a
hook dig from casting anything for that matter. The key to casting weighted nymphs, actually any weighted fly for that matter, is to open up your casting loop. Cane |

Only on graphite, and that was from a bead-head. Fish away.

If you cast like Lefty using a sidearm backcast and over the top forward cast, its difficult to hit your rod with a fly.
I've been very lucky so far but have yet to damage a rod with a fly. I expect at some point especially when using split shot, I'll crash a tip. Eric |

I hooked a tree limb on my back cast and by the time I figured out It had hapened the tip was broken. I had just bought the rod and I was the first trip out. In some ways I was lucky it was a Tonka Queen and only cost $200. My other broken tip happened in the parking lot slipping on the ice, but that is another story..... |

I have broken one tip while fishing. It was a bitterly cold spring day on the gallatin, and I was streamer fishing with a south bend 359. Made a cast, drifted it for a bit, and then brought a back cast, and thwack, the size 6 streamer hit the tip, and snapped it. It was my first day out with it after refinishing.

I've broken quite a few bamboo rods.
Broke a Tonka Queen on a "Steelhead"! (In my local river anything over 15 or 18 inches is technically considered a Steelhead.) Broke a Favorite casting at the casting ponds. This rod simply disintegrated. It must have been stored improperly because the bamboo had basically turned to powder inside. The funny part is that I was standing next to an old fellow who was telling me he didn't fish bamboo because they broke. I gave him a look and an "uh-huh" and then "snap"! Broke one of my rods on the back of a car seat while trying to protect one of Marcelo's rods. |

Good thing about boo is its so easy to fix it. I caught a tip on an overhanging limb 4 years ago and snapped the tip about 4 inches down. Fortunately it was still attached so I just hit it with a little Gorilla Glue, wrapped it with waxed dental floss and let is cure 24 hours. Then I took off the floss, scraped off the small amount of excess glue, and went back to fishing it. No invisible wraps, and it takes a magnifying glass to find the repair--Larry

Larry,
Hit it, wrap it, cure it, scrape it, and fish the sucker! Love the simplicity of it! Bob |

Hi, I broke a borrowed Dickerson Guide 8014 but not with a beadhead. I don't really know how I did it. I should be horse whipped. Jay Edwards

Only one bamboo tip on my Lettle Feller why fishing in the United Kingdom. Sent the rod to Glenn in 1989 for a total refinish and new tip. Got it back a year later. Picked it up and started an almost 20 year relationship with Glenn and the Boo Boys.
By the way it was my fault on breaking the tip. hung a fly in some trees for the umpennth time and got a little frustrated. Gregg |

the only rod I broke on a fish was a rebuilt H-I Featherweight that had already broken on me twice - it was dried out cane.
the fish was a 20" male brown and I managed to land him. Went back to the truck and rigged up my Conolon Royal Javelin backup and caught a few rainbows. I ended up sending the rod back to the rebuilder so he could salvage the hardware in lieu of my repair tab. |

Do not worry Andre the subject was broken a tip (singular) not plural so you should be excused I almost dread saying it in case of tempting provedance but no - never ... I have had the butt section on a 10' Loomis IM6 graphite explode when double hauling though ... |
