This is a rod I picked up for a reasonable price on a popular auction site! The rod is obviously wrapped in Leonard fashion, but... other than the way
it's wrapped, that's all I see that could possibly say Leonard except... the winding check. I have a few Leonards and the winding check on this rod is
EXACTLY as those on my other Leonards.
Node spacing is 3x3x3 on all sections and the cane is of excellent cosmetic quality, and obviously a finely made rod in it's time.
Take a guess, because I just don't know. There are no stampings on the ferrules, and if you'll look at the mid female ferrule and the butt female
ferrule, they obviously don't match. The reel seat has been replaced... no stamping of any kind, but it is NS, not NPB. The tube is the neat thing about
this rod. It was mailed from Oak Park Lumber and Milling Co in Sacramento, CA to the William Mills Co, NYC, NY. The address lable is an envelope from the
Lumber Co and still has the post mark on it. Very faded, but I believe it says May 01, 31 and the postage was 41 cents... (wish we could still mail a rod for
that much!).
One last thing, the pictures aren't very representative of the wrap colors. They are black and gold jasper, not black and whatever shade of green that
appears to be in the pictures.
So, here are the pics, take a guess and help me figure out what I have here.
Thanks,
Bob
