I've got what looks like an earlier model Heddon Bill Stanley Favorite that needs to be restored. It has red with gold tipping on the wraps, - can anyone suggest suitable color silk to replicate this?
Thanks!

Hello,
I thought to use this old topic to ask for a suggestion regarding the correct thread to use for a restorations of few wraps. I have got a Heddon 20 , Bill Stanley Favourite, 2F 8'1/2. Reading the Sinclair's book about restoration I thought that the right color for the wraps was Maroon 337 from Gudebrod. Then reading here on the forum I saw that the suggested color is Gudebrod 5382 granet/burgandy. Can someone kindly confirm me which color thread I should buy and where ? Thanks in advance for the kind answer. Ciao Alberto

I'm in the process of restoring a later #20 (doesn't have the border wraps) and am using YLI #2 in size 50. After using Aero Gloss as a cp the wraps
are a dead-on color match of the originals. Now, that having been said, the original wraps were over 50 years old with slightly yellowed varnish over them, so
the new wraps are probably slightly darker than the originals were when new. Personally, I'm ok with that as I like the looks of it & it maintains that
"vintage look". I got the thread from Goldenwitch.

Ombra wrote:Alberto, the old Gudebrod designation was 337. When Gudebrod began making silk thread again a few (15?) years ago, the color that is now widely available is 5382. Bamboofan is correct : YLI #2 is a GREAT alternative. I'm not sure Gudebrod is still making silk thread but a few tackle suppliers still have some in stock. Good luck and have fun with your restoration! Michael Sinclair |
