I finally got around to taking some pictures of the case that hangs in my office. They didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but you'll get the
general idea...

A great collection and manner of display Dean! Really enjoyed eye-balling it!
By the way, would you happen to know where the young lady's granddaughter might be fishing these days? The one that has hooked her skirt. Just curious! Bob Go Heels!!!

Dean seeing that celluloid reel oiler of yours reminded me of an item I picked up a few years ago. This thing has a little button on the top attached to a
cord that goes through the bottle and around a pulley attached to the bottom of the spring. Pull on the button and it compress's the spring towards the
top. It also has a leather tab to attach it to your vest . I was once told it is an oiler for an Illingsworth reel but for the life of me can not figure out
how it works,any ideas?

Russ,
I know that gizmo as the "Illingworth Fly Oiler". If I recall correctly, there is a picture of it in Jamie Maxtone Graham's Fishing Tackle Of Yesteryear book. I'll scan it and post it when I get home from work tonight. I think you pull up the string (which would be soaked with fly dope) and then you spread it on the fly. Not particularly practical, but many gadgets aren't. Very, very cool. I've been looking for one for years. I had one once, but the bottle was of glass and it had a crack in it. Dean. |

Russ,
My scanner is down, but here is the catalog description of the Illingworth Fly Oiler: This oiler is indispensable to the comfort of Dry-Fly angler. It consists of a bottle which is attached to the coat button as usual. The cork (top) is attached to a cord, which passes round a pulley on a spring which allows the cork to be pulled away from the bottle. When the cord is drawn out (oiled by passing over a small sponge in the neck of the bottle) the fly is oiled by moving it up and down the cord. The cord also acts in the same way as a needle for separating the hackles and touching the various parts of the fly which it is desired to oil. When the operation is complete the cork is simply released and it resumes its place at the mouth of the bottle. I think that since I identifed it the least you can do is sell it to me.
Dean. |

Man is my face red, the answers been sitting on my shelf longer than the oiler has. I have that book but haven't thumbed through it in ages I scanned the
page and here it is for anyone else that might be interested. As far as selling it Dean would much rather trade for something , say have you gotten tired of
that Hardy handheld fly vice yet ?
