Most of the stuff has found new homes with others, but every now and then I find a box with more junk!
Beautiful Michael Simon (Afgantrout) print, the art work for the VA Brook Trout license plate. Waistcoat dry fly oiler Fly tin from cook, Newton and Smith Fre-Line bass bug from Colorado - pretty rare. Lollacapop tin - mercifully empty An early Cortland 333 flyline, once the property of Luis Marden (his little name label is on there....)

Cool Fly Box | #104 | ||
|
This is one of my favorite threads! Here's a cool fly box from Rubin's Sport Shop in Lewistown, PA, about 50 miles SW from where I live. It is made of
celluloid and imitation leather - think it dates back to the 30's and maybe earlier (faux leather became widely used around 1927) - what do you think?

Found this one a while ago and it rapidly became my favourite (6" x 3 1/2" x 2")(any idea what the box was originally made for?)

Leather box | #106 | ||

It looks to me like a gentlemans case for shirt collars and cufflinks. The collar studs would be held in the semicircular insert in the case lid.

Enigma,
Neil Patterson describes a box just like that in "Chalkstream Chronicle" that he uses for a portable fly tying kit. He says it was an old collar/tab box from the days when men got their collars and shirts back from the laundry separately. -CC |

I have the first two years of Trout Unlimited Quarterly in mint shape! Pretty cool since I was born and raised in Michigan. Here is a picture of the cover of
the very first issue.

Walton's Engine | #109 | ||
|
Here is my submission to this great topic, a Walton's Engine that I made. Darrel Martin describes these in his book "The Fly-Fisher's Craft: The
Art and History". I made this one by studying the reproduction in the book, several woodcuts, and photographs of antique engines. These are useful for
making horse hair fly lines, furling leaders and twisting gut for Atlantic Salmon flies.
cheers, Michael

Michael - Wow! That's one of the neatest things I've seen in a while.
"When all the rods and a lot of reels, lines, leader boxes, et cetera, had been sold, the gang paid at the cashier's
window for what they'd bought and then made a bee line for the rug room to test their rods. I put mine together, tested it for a moment or so, and then
started to show it to men I knew. Not a man was interested in my rod. They all, without a single exception, tried to get me to look at theirs. Extraordinary,
how self centered most men are. Have you noticed it? "

Fye Box | #117 | ||
|
Fellow Gadgeteers:
I've been looking for and finally found an original, early Fye fly box circa 1950. It's a very lightweight, 2-tray version and in excellent, original condition. The "Pat. Pend." box is marked with the Fye fly logo and "Hollidaysburg, PA" I intend to return it to honorable service!

Neat stuff guys ...keep it coming !
I started off the week with no gut cutters in my collection. Now I have four of the five I know of ...
From top to bottom: Olson's, Paul H. Young, "Made in England" Rd. No. 667037 and Ogden Smith's "The Test", which is simply the
previous cutter with different markings. The only other vintage gut cutter I know of is the Hardy "Curate", which is simply the front half of the
Curate with the big handle.

Here are this month's additions. The bottle in the middle is a super early fly dope bottle. The bottle on the right holds tournament casting line and
the metal lipstick looking thing is a Hardy Joint Lubricator.

But I have to tell you when I scrolled down past these images I kept waiting for the pipe, the box is in wonderful condition and an incredible find, but the lead off and the slightly opened top... then... then... no pipe. great stuff thanks to you and everyone else for posting...
